Is it possible to play multiplayer in Sins of Solar Empire Trinity?

Hello there!

I was looking for some insight into why I am unable to connect to my friend via multiplayer. Thank you :)

Trinity was on sale with the charity bundle for modest bundle, so I bought it. I know you'll all tell me to acquire Rebellion, but it's not in my budget, and I wouldn't pay such a high amount for a game unless it was on a major discount.

However, I'd like to play Trinity with a friend, but I can't because the servers are down. However, multiplayer with direct connect appears to be functional. So I supplied my IPv4 address to a friend, but it didn't link him to my match. Is there any documentation or a means to learn how to do this?

There's no explicit documentation for Sins, but its basically the same process for any game you're trying to play over local network. Back in the day I used tools like Hamachi to help configure this, but I'm not sure what are the popular options these days.

Rebellion has been heavily discounted (80% off) and even twice given away for free, so I'd recommend still keeping an eye on it if at all possible. :)
