so happy, many thanks to Taekogae, LightStar, 2of3 & Basj for being very helpful.
stay safe & healthy all
one final question, just to make sure coz i've been away from wb for years.
are all these white background normal or there is something i can do to change them? how?
thank you
Run and control panel backgrounds are hard coded white.
Search bar can be replaced with an image in the same section where you did the address bar..... look for Search field background.
Note: The search field in windows 10 only supports 1 state so you might as well draw it as a single image and change the image count to 1.

noted for run & cp.
as for the search bar, too bad it doesnt work, i'll be very happy if it does.
already made 1 state & image count to 1, but nothing changed.
i've tried everything i can think of, using tga, bmp, also change the top glass, delete the top glass etc, nothing works

I very rarely skin the address bar. I don't care much for a state change on mouseover......especially because it doesn't actually work like it's supposed too (there should be 4 states according to the help button: Normal, Mouseover, Disabled, and Focus) Disabled state doesn't work and what's the diff between focus and mouse? Is focus "active but not mouse"? Dunno. One more example of inconsistent terminology/mislabeling/legacy functions.

Try this: Delete the code for the Address Field sections (all 3 parts: Normal, Green and Red if you've skinned them) and leave the Search field background. If left blank, the address field will use the same image as the search field.
i did as suggested, but it didn't work either.
it's okay, now i know i dont need to look for something that doesn't exist.
actually i'm just curious since i saw some themes with uxthemepatcher have no limit in customizing every parts of windows, wb used to be like that years ago.

agree in terms of functionality, but the default bar is huge, just look at the comparison, not very fond of it.

i like that the bar is slightly narrow in normal state and widens when i hover my mouse over, but this huge white box ruined everything
anyway, thank you for answering my question, at least much clearer for me now about what can be done and what can't.
thank you
The search bar has been changed in appearance and behavior even since the first version of windows 10. I wish MS would just leave shit alone!
I didn't realize that you were showing "typing" mode on the searchbar. Yes, that is also hard coded. One thing to note is that It's showing black on my system which I assume is due to the fact that I have the windows dark theme selected in personalization.
