We even have a 7 Eleven here in my small town of 12,000 people! :-)

(Oh, and I've never even been into it in the 37 years I've lived here. \o/

It's OK, Tom. I went into it a few times for you back in the day They used to have fairly decent donuts. Not as good as Rozier's, though. Granted, it's been at least 25 years since I've been in it. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I drove down Main Street.

This sums up Windows 11 for me:

"I can't get that scene from the classic comedy This Is Spinal Tap out of my head. You know, the one where dimwitted rocker Nigel Tufnel explains why the numbers on his amp all go to 11. "Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten."

I'm just curious if it will be a free upgrade for users of Windows 10 or will MS make us pay for it.

I very much doubt that MS will make 11 a free upgrade.  In fact, I very much doubt MS would discount 11 for Win 10 users.  When MS was giving away Win 10 in the early days, it was in an effort to retire Win 7 and 8.  Given that the majority of users are now on Win 10, it is very unlikely they will do that this time.

On the leaked version which I don't advise installing, the key from W7, 8.1 and W10 worked to activate it.

I have already paid for Windows. I'll not pay again. I can deal with Zorin OS, or Linux, or......

11 is supposed to be free, as 10 was.

The fact that the leaked version can be activated as I mentioned above, speaks for that.

I really can't worry about it until I see some good specific system requirements, that'll define the situation.  I still have a bad taste in my mouth from Win8 which didn't really have heavy requirements but did need a couple of specific processor features, one of which I was lacking.  (Turned out that trying to force feed that machine Win7 didn't go so well either.)

Meanwhile, I'll just keep staring at this "Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H1" notice for a little while longer.  It amuses me. ;)

Looking forward to it! :)

I sit corrected.  We all knew how desperate MS was to get people off previous versions and onto Win 10, but I would not have expected MS to go the free route again.

Anyway, free or not, I shall wait a while longer before diving in head first.  However, if MS is basing Win 11 on the Win 10 code, with perhaps new and improved features, then it likely won't repeat the error that was Win 8.  Thing is, I thought Win 8.1 was quite good and probably would have stayed with it if I hadn't been irreversibly upgraded to Win 10 during Scheduled Maintenance one night.

After a few teething problems I actually didn't mind Win 10, so if Win 11 is very much improved on 10 as it stands, I would imagine the transition would be painless for most users.

Mark, take a gander here (or a goose): https://www.ghacks.net/2021/06/18/will-you-be-able-to-upgrade-to-windows-11-for-free/?_m=3n%2e0038%2e2632%2ehj0ao01hy5%2e2r6d

Thanks for the link, Doc, it was a very interesting article.  It seems from the article that Win 11 will most likely be free for users of Win 7: 8.1 and 10.  If that proves to be true then I will upgrade after a period of 'wait and see' to assess whether or not there are some hiccups with the early editions.  If Win 11 is largely based on the current Win 10 code, it is likely that it will be okay right out of the box.  Having said that, though, new OSes often suffer a few early days teething problems, which is why I'll keep an eye on things before taking the plunge.

Not really a new OS. Just Windows 10 with a new start menu and a few added features.

Pretty much what I suggested earlier.... that 11 would likely be based on Win 10 code, etc.  It's the new features that could have some early issues, and why I'll wait a while before updating.

I found a link to the leaked Win 11 and I'm wondering if I might install it on a non-critical PC to see what's different to Win 10.   I was skeptical at first but it does seem to be Win 11.

Anyway, I'd check it out for any nasties before deciding whether or not to install it on an old PC with an AMD Phenom CPU in it.

Thoughts, Anyone?

Probably best you remove that link to 11. You are not allowed to post it.

So far I love all the animations that 11 has, though I only tested it on a VM. The direction that they are taking it seems to be right, though there are some concerns about its theme-ability with windowblinds. Taskbar has been overhauled and might not be skin-able like the modern ui apps in its final form. Just from messing with its msstyle, it seems to no longer be modifiable there.

Windows 11 is a total disappointment so far... but I hope until the final version after 1 yearthe will hear the people's reaction...
I installed it in a VM and I don't like it...

The above is the default theme, but there is also this dark theme, (the only good thing is the Explorer, has better icons now):

MS "leaked" this to create an even larger media circus. I don't advise installing the leaked version because of possibly damaging bugs which MS will take no responsibility for.

All W11 appears to be is a small GUI change which available customizing apps can do on your system what this W11 does without possible damage.

It will not be an additional charge. Fact: Windows Keys from W7, 8.1 and 10 activate the leaked copy.

You are missing graphics drivers. it makes things look better. Rounded corners on the windows and acrylic blur on search/start/taskbar. What you are seeing it what windows 7 use to do with basic and aero, but now on a modern OS. Lol

Also a side note. One of my friends on discord was talking with another person and got windowblinds loaded up on win11. Though there are some minor quirks.
