Rebellion of the Sins of the Solar Empire: Modding

I'm not very good at modding, and I constantly require a tutorial to help me get through it. Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity is owned by a buddy, and Rebellion is owned by me. I was curious if:

We'll be able to play them together.

Use the BSG mod Sins of the Fallen/Fall of Kobol, which may be obtained here (The Mod)

I believe it is doable by disabling specific races, but as I already stated, I am not well-versed in modding.

Rebellion and Trinity are entirely different versions of the game. No amount of modding will get them to work together. 

The best solution would be for your friend to upgrade to Rebellion, as its the newest version that has the most features. It's been on sale many times on the digital stores its sold on, and twice its been given away for free.
