Start search box to dark so text not showing.

Hi all !

Hoping for a bit of help here, although it is not a major issue I would if possible find a solution to it if there is one !

I am using the WindowBlind Defunkt Squad by Vampothika which I have modified to suit me a bit better.  But, one thing I have not been able to figure out, and it is in the non modified Blind as well, is how to make the text visible in the Start Search box ?

Below are some pictures to show how it looks.

This is what one see when just opening start menu

Here I have typed something, but as can be seen.. well not seen, it looks blank.

And here it can be seen, after having highlighted the text.

Now, it is not that important as windows does show suggested hits when one start typing, as you all know.  But, would still know if it would be possible to just change the text for the search box area with out it effecting all other text, as in Notepad and other places.

Any and all feedback are greatly appreciated ! :D

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe, that text color can't be change. But, I might be wrong. Someone more knowledge on Windowblind/Skinstudios might pop in and suggest something.

Thanks

Hi Tom, I went ahead and downloaded and checked that skin and unfortunately that cannot be fixed because the search box image is a somewhat transparent image on a black background. When you start typing Windows 10 itself forces that text color to black. I will keep investigating, but I don't think it is fixable.

Thanks Tom, appreciate you downloading the blind and checking it out !

I guess it is one of Microsoft quirks to doing things their own way.

Yes. One can change the color of the text in the search bar. But as soon as you type it will revert to black. It's one of several drawbacks of dark skins on windows 10. This is why I always do a matching lighter substyle for my dark skins.

Have a similar thing so thought I just reuse this thread.  Noticed that on some Blinds that some web sites search boxes also get a bit to dark.  Can that be changed within Skin Studio or is it down to the websites coding, since some have white boxes while others gets colored from the skin you using ?

Here is an example, the skin in use are made by Vad_M and called HUD Desktop, but I seen it on other skins as well, so hoping it can be changed in Skin Studio.  Yes, you can see the text but just barely, at least on my 3840x1600 monitor, unless I lean closer to the monitor.

So yeah, if anyone know where to change said settings in Skin Studio, if that's possible, I would love to know where to do it. B)

Thank you all for taking the time to read and possible reply ! :digichet:

Is that sites search box background and text always the same colors regardless of which skin you have applied Tom? If so, then nothing can be done, they are forcing the text color.

The background no,  but the text is black no matter.  This is what it looks like when using your skin Neutrality.  As you can see, the search box background is different, but the text is the same color.  That's why I thought there is some function that changes the color of the boxes ?

Ok then Tom, if the search box color background is different with my skin, then it is the other skins search box image that is causing the issue most likely if the text is black in the explorer search box. But it looks to me like Kitty used a different color text in her skin for the search box, but the site you are on is forcing black text.

Ok, so the search box image can be changed ?  Where would I find that so I could change it to a light background then ?  If you know that path to it, which I'm hoping you do ?

Thanks Tom, but unfortunately that did not work for the search boxes on web pages, it did change the Explorer search box though, as you can see in the below picture.   The skin is Vad_M's HUD Desktop again but I copied the search box background from your Neutrality.

I do appreciate your suggestions, so if you have more, feel free to suggest way.

Well then Tom, looks like it is the web site only, there is really nothing you can do. Just reinstall Vad_M's great skin and it should go back to the original search box designed for the skin.

I found the culprit !  It's not a graphic but the color that you change for alot of other things within the OS, one example would be Notepad.

Path: Change skin colours / Show me the skin defined system colours / Window Background

Might be on other places as well (seen that before, but maybe you know ?) but changing that color changed the search box color on web sites as well, as in the Nexus screeny further up.  Was a bit tricky to get a matching color though, since the OS text is changed to light blue in Notepad so couldn't pick a to light color, since that would make it hard to see what one typing in Notepad if using it. o_O

Just realized that it is actually the same color that changes the background color in the search box on Stardock Forum, if you clicking on the magnification glass up to the right.  But, here the text color stays the same as within the OS and don't stay black, as it does on the Nexus site.

I very much appreciate you trying to help me Tom, thank you again ! :digichet:

Edit: Also same background color in the Karma when you give that, just saw that when I gave you some for your help !

Well thanks for the Karma Tom. My Window background text color is pretty well always white, and the Window text color in the same area set to a dark color, because those two items affect many, many applications, such as NotePad and others. Glad you got it resolved. :-)

You must welcome !

Yes, I noticed now it changed quiet a bit but I tweaked the text color as well and so far it works well, both on the OS and web sites.  If I find something that got broken at least I know where to go to find it now.

Once again thanks for your assist !
