Messenger

Hey I was just wondering what messenger service you all used. I used to use yahoo, msn, and aol but since msn messenger 6.0 came out I've left everything else in the dust. Mostly because it's dependable and best of all customizeable.

Trillian with all of the above.

MSN kind of scares me now though with the hacks and such and it's intergration into the actual OS....

I tried trillian once, seemed kinda buggy to me but an awesome concept, too many little things bugged me with someone being online and it not showing and such, I tried msm messenger plus but i ripped that thing outta my pc quick cause it installed sub programs like search bars on your desktop, linked icons, dialers, and put favorites into my exlporer. I hate that crap.

Trillian for MSN,ICQ,Yahoo.

I'm using the free version of Trillian...I would buy if they'd come out with a Lite version, somewhere between Pro and free. The Pro version has too many features, more than what I would use.

Also, has anyone else (on Trillian/MSN) been getting chat windows popping up reminding to upgrade to MSN 6.0? I've upgraded, but am still getting them.

MSN 6.0 for me WITH Msn Plus (I just selected not to install the additional sub-programmes)
P.S. MSN Plus is amazing!

no on the msn popups...
Though I do get a disconnect on the first two attempts at loging into msn for password violations. All I do is hit reconnect and it takes it on the third try.

Trillian Pro and Trillian Pro 2.0beta both do this. MSN has announced they will not support Trillian connections in the near future because of security reasons. Personally I feel it is because you can get around all their popups and such with Trillian, MSN Messenger *IS* a security violation, they need to get real....

I do not use any as chatting is a waste of time for me. If I had to choose, MSN.

Msn but I hardly ever use it except to send small files to friends in town. I would never keep a messenger up all the time because getting "hi" messages from people I barely know would irritate me.

You can set msn, yahoo and probably others so that only people on your list can see you are online or send you messages.

I can't get Trillian to show my contact lists, so I'm sticking with ICQ\ICQ Plus.

IPlural is right about MSN closing its doors to outside messenger programs

http://www.betanews.com

So Trilian might not work anymore once they move to the .NET platform and I guess GIAM and others that contact thier servers won't work either.

I still like MSN though... although Yahoo has games for IM users and stuff (like MSN) but I don't know of any IM that has shared browsing and cell phone alerts.

Trillian Pro 2.0 is compliant with the new MSN changes. They'll be making the appropriate changes in the free version as well
