Changelog for Curtains 1.10 Beta 1

  • Improved apply speed
  • New options for Windows Explorer background: transparency, blur, active \ inactive color, etc
    https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2020-08-24_13-21-51.png
  • New option to extend titlebar into top of ribbon in explorer windows
    https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2020-08-24_13-26-54.png
  • Automatically sets inactive color to ensure Chrome tabs when inactive are not forced white incorrectly (styles which do not set the OS option to apply the accent color to the titlebars will remain white inactive)
  • Disables animations when max / restoring explorer windows when using acrylic glass
  • Should fix a reported issue with Edge vertical tabs and the new tab replacement option in edge
    https://forums.stardock.com/501276/black-bar-in-microsoft-edge-when-activating-vertical-tabs
  • Tweak which may address the issue with leftover back buttons from PWA apps
  • Makes the edit buttons in app now use the default verb vs edit as some editing apps didn't set the edit verb.
  • Modifies the online tab to handle odd aspect ratio previews better especially double height ones.
  • Fixes a crash in Windows Explorer if you use Start10 and define just a taskbar button (and no taskbar)
  • Fixes the taskbar being a solid color if you use Classic Shell (not Open Shell - just the older classic shell)

Changelog for Curtains 1.10 Beta 2 (09/10/2020)

  • Open Shell issue with explorer blur fixed,
  • Devices and Printers custom folders (say printer properties), no longer has a font rendering issue
  • Blur colors can now be set to be recolorable
  • Opening the config should no longer instantly disable WB
  • Installing the Play style now finds a style to apply after install
  • Fixed an issue with Play style on online tab where mouse over shows some odd characters as part of the text
  • Added a button in the editor under colors to directly go to Blur settings
  • Ensures the back button shows in Windows Calendar

Hello, the "extend title bar under the ribbon top" option interferes with OpenShell.

Mouseover color is suddenly gone for all items in menu:

Without "extend title bar under the ribbon top" :

Info

Win10 1909 18363.959

OpenShell 4.4.146

Some of the windows from Classic Control Panel, like Devices and Printers, show text incorrectly, and dragging is very sluggish when using explorer transparency.

What are your computer specifications?

Also are you able to provide a screenshot of the problem with Devices and Printers as I am not seeing it here.  You don't get any transparency at all on those windows.  How are you opening Devices and Printers?

You can check the attached screenshot. Text is all messed up. And dragging this window occurs in slow-mo, and the mouse gets locked until the movement is completed.

Is the slow performance only with that window, or all explorer windows?

I don't know exactly when this started, I usually use darker themes.  It seems like the start menu text color is using Start10 and ignoring Curtains.  This is Fluent Sky, I don't think it was always this way, and I'm fairly certain I haven't played with it:

I'm not coming up with a way to fix it.

Thanks.

Hello Dave,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can't reproduce it on my system. But I did saw other odd thing happened when I keep changing from WB to Curtains. Usually restart Explorer solve it. Sometimes need more than one restart explorer.

Thank you,

Well I just now thought to check - it's working right under a different login.  So it's probably some setting in something, somewhere, argh.  I'll have to poke around for it later.  Thanks, sorry to bug you about it, if I turn up anything that I think might be worth mentioning I'll let you know.  (I did delete the shipped skins, uninstalled and reinstalled Start10 and Curtains with current downloads.)

Well thankfully that didn't take long.  I don't know if it's "Right" or "Wrong" but I can tell you what fixed it-

In Start10, on the main page "Style", in the "Settings" dropdown I had picked a custom color.  Clicking on "Reset to automatic color" fixed it.

Clicking around and trying a few different colors doesn't seem to matter, it seems to be merely having a custom color set causes white text which didn't catch my eye on dark skins.

Thanks.

The slow performance is only with certain classic control panel windows. Other explorer windows work as intended.

Thanks for the report.  We have been able to reproduce this and resolve it for the next update.

It looks like it was only a problem when in light mode.

Great news!  (I should have reported that I'm using light mode - promise that I'll do better next time!)

When I tried applying blur mode for the explorer background, titlebar middle text lost functionality and back to left align.

Thats strange,  For all windows?

Are you sure the style is set to have centred title bar text?

Had some thoughts, but....Forget it

-One thing... Frame starts to "wander" with the cursor when Acrylic Blur is chosen in the editor.

What do you mean by wander?

Blur is naturally slower than non blur when moving things but nothing should be wandering.

The window just moved across the screen by itself...Does not happen with Normal blur, just Acrylic blur. -As soon as you try to move the window after applying Acrylic blur this happens (and the cursor toggles along whith it) :omg:

It was centred. Nvm, it was actually Windows firmware fault. I am Windows Insider Preview user, after I updated my PC to the latest patch, things back to normal again.

Hi all.

I also get the "Window drag slow-mo timewarp effect" but it also happens on other applications that use the acrylic blur with Rainmeter being the main one in my case.

General thoughts elsewhere are that this is a bug in Windows itself. That said, it has been intermittent with other apps, so I might have something clashing in all the tweaks I have set.

Spec: a nothing special i7 w/1060 and latest non-preview Windows 10 (2004?)

Edit: If I disable transparency in Windows 10 Settings, the issue goes away and windows will drag normally. Of course you then lose the system transparency effect which somewhat defeats the point... >_<
