Unable to open Universal Windows applications

bug

Running the latest public build of Windows 10 v2004

unable to open any Universal Windows applications, like the Settings App, MS Store etc..

Only way around it is to go in the Curtains settings to disable theming of Universal Windows applications then change the theme to anything else and change it back to the desired theme to fix the issue.

No other changes to settings the issue just started happening.

What version of Curtains are you using?

We have not had any other reports of similar currently so would appreciate some extra details such as what Curtains style you are using.

Curtain version v1.0 (trial)

using the Cairo Green-Blue theme

Same issue with any other theme

Are you using any other products which might alter the user interface or are utilities which run all the time?

Also when you say you can fix it by disabling the option in curtains and changing themes and then back again, do you open any universal apps in between or literally disable option, swap theme, reenable option, swap theme?  Or are you not reenabling the option and it still needs a theme change to make things happy?

I assume you have tried rebooting as well?

I don't know if this is related, but I have a similar issue with the Windows 10 Settings app not loading, combined with another issue, with some steps to reproduce:

Open "Edit Style" > Window Title Bar > Advanced Properties > Override Font = Enabled > Open font picker in next row > Scroll through fonts > *crash*

For me, Curtains settings app will crash out with no error part way through scrolling. I can open the settings app again and make changes, but this consistently happens.

If I type the name of the font into the top left box of the picker, this tends NOT to crash out.

This ties in to silveriovicentejr 's report in that once Curtains crashes out via the steps above, the Windows settings app will no longer open.

Rebooting the system fixes the settings no launching issue until I repeat the process. I don't think I have any fonts beyond the Windows 10 stock installed.

Full relevant config: Windows 10 20H1, Curtains, Startisback, Rainmeter, MacType and PowerToys all running. No issues with any of these other than this one. I will try and turn these off one by one and see if it stops Curtains falling over, and will post if anything develops.

Thx

Do you get a similar crash in notepad with the font picker in that app?

Update: I did not get a crash in any other app in the font picker, but I've uninstalled each UI tweak app I have in reverse order and found MacType to be the culprit of both my issues. I've disabled MacType for both Settings and Curtains and both issues I had are now fixed.

I think there is some odd interaction between MacType and certain modern apps. I will file a bug report on the MacType github.

Thx

I have other Stardock software apps, but all disabled at the moment, the only other is Bins. (http://www.1upindustries.com/bins/Default.aspx ) even after disabling it and rebooting issue persists. The work around for me is to go to Curtain settings and uncheck the box to theme Universal Windows applications. After I uncheck that option I'm able to switch to any theme and the Settings app works along with any other UW app.
