WindowFX- menu only!

Recently I decided to give WFX another try with the trial version.

After installation on Windows 7(64), 8.1(64)(I didn't bother on stinky 10) it failed to generate a desktop icon. After finding it in the Start list I was able to pull up it's menu- and that is where the good news ended.

The menu forms and allows options to be changed- but then they do NOTHING. There are no effects on any window whatsoever. Aside from the menu, it is as if the program wasn't even there.

Furthermore, when going to the forum it was impossible to log in and post. I had to use a backup browser to even get that to go. Guys, this is not encouraging...

So, after all that; is there a list of known programs that it could be in conflict with- or a known solution?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/485903/windowfx-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you for responding.

There are some open projects that prevent rebooting- so exploring this may get delayed for a while.

I will report back with results.

Have a good weekend and stay safe!

After completing some marathon projects I took another stab at it and it is clear that it isn't worth any more stress. Where to begin?

* I have tested multiple Stardock system programs and ONLY Fences wasn't a massive failure. Fences is by far the star of the show.

* My taskbar upon the last reboot became oversized and suddenly is refusing resizing. There have been no other UI changes in recent times. I will see if this issue remains after a complete uninstall and reboot.

* I did the redo while logged in and it still claimed the trial was over.

* In the past the support team either ignored posts, repeatedly asked the same questions, asked rookie level questions, gave rookie level advice, ignored screenshots and repeatedly asked for them again...

In this case I basically was given a copy and paste job of the FAQs and my question about known programs with potential conflicts was ignored. Support like this isn't going to cut the mustard.

I run a business that takes tech and makes it work for the average person. I will recommend Fences. It by far is the masterpiece. It's concept and execution are head and shoulders above the rest. The others...

I am sorry you have been experiencing issues.

With regards to your first post, WindowFX does not create a desktop icon, like all good installers it creates start menu entries.

Given the symptoms of it not doing anything on your computer, I assume you did use the option on the first page to turn it on?  It sounds silly, but you would be surprised how often people miss things like that.  It may also be an antivirus product preventing the installation of the service as WindowFX requires the service to be enabled in order to work.  If the slider reverts to off then thats the issue.

You don't seem to have mentioned a trial expiry issue before so I cannot say whats up with that.  Trials run for 30 days typically (Multiplicity has a 14 day one I believe).

I don't see any other posts regarding these massive failures with the other software but given the number of issues you have experienced it is highly likely you have something on your computer interfering with the software.
