Can't start game - error: partial install

Hello,

as indicated in the title, I can't start the game, getting the message:

The following DLC folders are in a state of partial install: EXP1_Mercenaries

....

Verifying the install via steam was unsuccessfull, as was reinstalling the game.

After consulting the FAQ I found a similar problem, which might be solved by not starting the game via desktop-shortcut. I always started the game through steam though. I also don't own the mercenaries dlc.

The game has been installed for a few years before that, but I haven't played for a year or two. Up until now it has always worked out.

Would be nice if someone knows a solution. Thank you.

This sounds like it's more related to Steam's own way of installing things. Has this happened with any other Steam games/apps on your machine? Have you tried contacting them for support?

Another possibility is a 3rd party program interfering, like an anti-virus. Try whitelisting Steam and GC3 with any such program you have.

Thank you for your answers.

Up until now I have never had this problem before with any steam game. I contacted Steam, but so far I haven't gotten an answer. Maybe I'll get one today.

Sadly, whitelisting steam and the game with my antivirus wasn't successful either.

Off the top of my head I wonder if you put a link to GCIII on your desktop.

Cleanup what you can and defrag/trim

Cold boot

right click on GCIII icon and run as admin

if that will solve what ever prob you have.

Had this problem a few times. We are a household of multiple kids, multiple steam accounts. When someone logs on with a game with more DLC than the next person who logs on we get this error. The only way to get around it is to unistall / reinstall. It seems that the game registers the DLC that isn't linked to your account and then crashes.
