Why is the SoaSE Soundtrack incomplete

Includes only 46 of ~92 tracks

Hello,

After purchasing the Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion - Original Soundtrack on Steam, I noticed that it is missing many tracks that are in the game. I then did as I tend to do when something makes no sense, and painstakingly went through and found the stuff not present, those being (using the names they have in the game's sound folder, for I know not what their official titles are):

edit: spoilers don't seem to work for some reason -_-

Advent 1

Advent 5

Advent Battle

Advent Battle 2

Advent Quiet 2

Advent Theme

Battle 1

Battle 2

Battle 4

Battle 5

Battle 6

Battle 7 (13 - Relentless seems to be the same track, but in a lower key. Perhaps we could have both? |-) )

Battle 8

Battle 9

Battle 11

Battle 12

Battle 13

All tracks labelled as "Quiet" are missing (all 11 of them)

(Also, why is there no "Quiet 3"? Naming error? Cut content? Same fate as the old Vasari Empire?)

All tracks labelled as "Sad" are missing (all 3 of them)

TEC 1

TEC 2

TEC 3 (Actually, this track goes unused in the game, for what ever reason, and it would be nice to see it added to the TEC music lineup. After all, the content is there, no changes other than adding it to both TEC factions, something one can already easily do.)

TEC 4

TEC Opening

TEC Quiet (14 - Birth of the Coalition is similar, but by no measure is it identical)

TEC Theme

Trouble 1

Trouble 2

Trouble 4

Trouble 5

Trouble 6

Trouble 7

Trouble 9

All tracks labelled as "Upbeat" are missing (all 3 of them)

Vasari 2

Vasari 3

Vasari 4

Vasari 6

Now I'm sure I got them all, so do tell if I listed any that are included, or missed one that isn't.

Also, there is one case of the reverse: a track present with the soundtrack, but not to be found anywhere in the game's files. That track is "8 - Peace and Prosperity". Where did it come from? Where did it go? Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe? Is it the missing Quiet 3?

I'll take a look but usually official OSTs are selections and don't include every possible incidental piece of music.

I can't think of a single other game that touts their OST is a selection of the best music, they just package it all, regardless of quality. When I purchased the Soundtrack DLC, I was under the impression I'd be getting the full musical content of the game. The Soundtrack's Steam Store page doesn't say it's a 'best of', it just says it is the soundtrack. Also, the page claims 55 tracks, but their is only 46 across both discs?

For an example, The Witcher 3 official soundtrack does not include every track. In particular I had to find someone ripping the game files for the Oxenfurt theme sans lyrics.

Really? That sucks, but makes my point stronger. It would save end-user hassle (and make this overgrown bantha happy).

Also, the part I REALLY want resolved is the matter of Quiet 3/Peace and Prosperity, as well as the reasoning behind TEC 3 being unused despite being fully functional in the coding.

All the sound tracks we have are already in the OST. Anything else would require more work on taking game files out and figuring out what to name them etc. So not likely to happen.

Okay, but about the second thing?

Okay, but about the second thing?

No idea. A lot of things get messy in code and undocumented.

Okay, one last thing. The Steam store page claims there are 55 tracks, but only 46 are present?

I don't really know where the rest of them can be found, but I remember that I really liked the soundtracks that they used when I played the game. Some of the best I've heard in a while. I have a close relationship with this niche though cause it's the part that I'm trying to get an internship in. I'm a final year uni student that started off with an undecided major and come to learn that she loves something really specific. I took a class last year about how the audio envirnoment affects thinking and emotions and how it can help make people perciev a product in a certain way. I aboslutly fell in love with the concept and started reseraching the topic a lot more. I took games that I felt had a poor sound design and remodeled the entire thing with different background music that I got from an amazing library that I got an equaly amazing subscription to. I literally changed every sound from the game and tried to give it a different feel. I was lucky that said library had everything I could ask for in really high quality cause I'm thinking about writing my thesis on this now.

Good luck to you

To any one actually wanting to listen to the tracks not included, go to this directory:

[steam install location]\steamapps\common\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Sound\

Along with the music (with titles stated in OP), you'll find sound effects, voice files, and all other sounds one can hear in the game.
