The new Edge is here, promising more extensions and a far better search engine, based on Chromium, the same engine powering Google's Chrome browser. This makes it more compatible with websites other, less popular browsers have problems with.

This also means that after granting Edge permission, it can use Chrome extensions from the Google Playstore, which has far more than Microsoft's.

Downloading and installing are explained in the linked article, above. You don't have to uninstall the old Edge which is based on MS's engine.

Over the next weeks and months, MS will be pushing the new Edge. You can wait, and it might even be better to do so as just now it probably still has bugs, but if you like being on the bleeding edge, so to speak, go for it!

Been using the beta version for a month now and pleased with the performance and ability to use Google Chrome extensions. Most likely will use this and drop Google Chrome.

Thanks for posting, Seth.

Actually, I'm about to download it to try it out. Both you and I.D.'s comment gave me the impetus.

I've been using the Insider versions for a while and have liked it. I got rid of Chrome.

Been using it since Don hooked me up sometime last year. Got an email from MS a few days ago notifying me of the release.  Good post, Seth!

Save a system restore point before you install this. It wrote over MS Edge and wipe out all my favorites. My last restore point was 5 days ago and I lost everything I did.

Might just be doing the same....on Win 7 ....;)

Hmmm, I might just have to give this a try, not because I'm sick of Firefox or anything, but because it could come in quite handy as an alternative when Firefox doesn't like a site for whatever reason.  It doesn't happen a lot, but there have been some instances and I resorted to that dreaded Internet Explorer, so thanks for the heads up, Doc.

I have W7 and I am using Google. I am thinking of trying edge.
I also have IE installed. Should I remove both these other browsers if I install edge?

You can uninstall Google Chrome if you wish, but Internet Explorer is integrated into the OS and it could cause problems if you try to remove it.

If anyone is using a Google Chromecast and unable to cast using the new Microsoft Edge browser there is a fix.

Bad luck, I guess. Favs are there on my Edge.

I had to save MS Edge favorites as an html and import them into the new Edge. Yes it doesn't skin and the icon on the taskbar is just a square white box.
