Critical Update CVE-2020-0601 To W10

NSA revealed critical flaw - update a.s.a.p.

The NSA rarely goes public with respect to OS vulnerabilities, tending to save them for possible future exploitation.

This vulnerability which they discovered was deemed sufficiently serious to require public notification of the need to patch immediately:

The patch can be done through Windows Update, or manually.

The linked infopackets article by John Lister is pretty interesting regarding the NSA's usage of OS weaknesses, apart from the current one.

"Thanks, but no thanks."

You're with W7, and Snowy with Vista.

It's a conspiracy. 😉

And I'm with Win 8.1..... well that's what is going on my next build for my primary machine when all the components arrive.... hopefully in the next day or so.

Why 8.1? Granted, it was better and more stable than W8, but MS ended mainstream support for 8.1 and its end of life will occur in 3 years.

To me, 8 and 8.1 were just precursors for W10.

I would have to agree.

Why 8.1?

Because I happen to have a spare copy of 8.1 and my Win 10 copies are already in use on other machines, and after recently spending up big to upgrade my main beastie, I'd rather not have to purchase Win 10 at this time.  Thing is, the folk over at majorgeeks reckon it's still possible to update to 10 from 7 and 8/8.1 for free by installing 10 over those older OSes and activating using their product key.  I will try that once all my components have arrived and my new machine is up and running.
