Get another stick of RAM and Install XP...You won't look back

I reloaded ME recently to test a couple of older programs and found it was just as buggy as before XP.
I can't think of anything to ramp up ME and to be honest, a P4 is an overkill for a 9x based OS.
You might find one of the tune-up utilities like Tweak ME of some use, but don't forget that anything over 512Mb of RAM is not recognised by ME.
Assuming you are not in a position to upgrade to XP (not a cheap exercise!) perhaps you might try cutting back on your system restore points and placing your swapfile on a seperate partition, optimised down to a custom managed size.
It is really a case of tuning ME up to minimise the aggro of running 'old technololgy' .... if I could put it in that context.
A regular system 'health check' is a good routine to follow as well.
However, if you can ante up the $$$$$$ go the XP route .... RAM is certainly dirt cheap at the moment (under A$.00,50 per Mb) and XP is dropping in price so it's worth shopping around for a good deal.

RAM is cheap - fiddling with ME is not! Installing more RAM and XP will be the biggest upgrade you will ever make

Yeah take your RAM up to 512 and get XP.....you will not regret it

http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=316256 - XP Home (Upgrade) - $99.99 from CDW.
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=299152 - Kingston 256mb DDR RAM - $51.68 from CDW.

If you do a lil' shoppin, you could knock it down by a few dollars. But the $150 or so dollars will be the best upgrade you can make aside from buying a new pc! I really recommend XP.

Try running a P4.3 .... light years ahead of the original P4.
Nothing against the alternatives either, I just prefer to use a recognised CPU instead of generic.
I thought ME was short for 'Murky Effluent"!

Either upgrade RAM so you can run Win XP or downgrade to Win 98,ME is like a virus.

it was the dud upgrade, actually. 2000 is better, I think, unless they're the same, and xp was made in 2000 too, right? I can't believe they made 3 in a year!

couldn't save you no money on XP sorry

Well, for some people 150$ is a lot of money.
The price of RAM is probably not so much an issue as the price of XP itself.
Maybe you can get yourself a used copy on EBay though.

that might be true but it is well known that AMD out performs Intel in every test. And AMD is a HELL of ALOT cheaper.

I disagree whole heartedly...maybe cheaper and a steal for the price but outperform on every test...NOT!!!

I think these numbers speak the truthhttp://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030210/barton-13.html

i still will not buy intel... IMO they are to overpriced. for the price of a p4 3.33 ghz i can instead build a complete AMD system

here is another reason I will not buy intel...

i never want to buy a machine that has memory built in and is not upgradable.
The P4 might cream the 3000 but not the 3200 or the OPTERON!!
