Hypergates

I seem to be having a problem with hypergates.  I move my ships into the hypergate, but they never seem to use it to arrive at the destination.  Is there something you must do?

Don't think of them as gates, but paths. Move down the path, don't sit in the gate.  Moving anywhere along the blazing white beam will give move bonus, so don't feel like you have to follow it all the way. You can move along it however much as you want.

Hypergates work more like space lanes. Any ship traveling them will have their moves doubled or more (you can research techs for more speed). There is no instantaneous teleporting.

Ships will automatically use the space lanes if they think it will get them to their destination faster.

I played arounf with hypergates today and I did not see any movement bonus.  Are they actually working?  They seem to be broken to me.

They totally work. Click on a tile the hyperlane intersects. You are connecting TWO gates together first right?

Yep both gates connected (bright beam of light between both points). Do you have to enter the gate at either end for it to work?  Can you use other Civs lanes?

No. Just move onto the tiles and yes you can use other civ's lanes.

I've not gotten to play the new game much as life is.... busy.

However one thing I am curious about.    Can you still build military bases with the warp projection bubbles?

if so.. do these bubbles stack with the Hyperspace lanes?

There will be no sign of a move bonus. You might have a ship that can travel 5 tiles per turn. Using a hyper lane to travel 1, 2, or even 3 tiles will look like you only moved 1. Its like your ships only use 1/3 of a move.

As for using enemy hypergates, yes you can use them. I tend to leave enemy hypergates alone because I can use them.

I have not tested mixing military starbases and hyperlanes.

I noticed that sometimes a ship will travel like one space besides a hyper lane and not use it until I move it manually directy on top of the line.

But normally the hyper lanes work. Only the indication of moves needed to reach a destination is not correct (those tiny numbers in the shown path from start to destination of a ship). They are still counted like there is no hyperlane, but when you watch a ship move on a standard line (+100% speed) it travels two sections of the path.

Also I'm not always sure if the calculation of the shortest path takes the hyperlanes into account correctly. If I have something like this:

       A

B

          C

If A is connected to B and B to C then if I want to travel from A to C the ship travels directly from A to C without using the hyper lanes. I did not explicitly measure the distances and calculate the fastest way myself, but it looks to me using the lanes in this case would be faster.
