Just curious, how do you pronounce OS X?

I've always said O.S.Ex

But now i shall say it and always have OS.Sex in the back of my mind, and no doubt it'll slip out now and again

Well, both O.S. ten and O.S. Ex would be correct.  It is verion 10 of the OS, but I typically here it called OS Ex.  (O.S. Sex is just plian wrong in so many ways... )

Really? Intersting. Funny when you always see something written down, you just assume a pronounciation.

But OS Ex DOES sound exactly like OS Sex when it's said fast.

Oh, sex?

Believe it or not, it is called O.S. 10 and true Apple aficionados will laugh at those who call it "X".

At work, I hear it pronounced both ways all the time, often followed by "how do you say that?" We in the IT department call it OS ten though.

Windows XP is another "adult OS". Notice that if said fast Windows XP can sould like "Windows Sex P".

OMG. One of the most immature posts on the msgboard that I've ever seen that was still on the subject. But it's pretty funny. I always said OS Ex. But I never really used it in a normal verbal conversation. I don't talk about Macs. they are forbidden from my vocabulary.

For the record:

It is I who was laughed at when using "O.S.Ex" by none other than a sales rep., who by the way caused my loss interest in Macs, plus they cost too much.

How do you pronounce Apple's previos operating system? OS IX ("eye" "ex") ? I always called it OS 9.

OS X is how they started out marketing it before it was released.   (That and "aqua", but that was their code name).  The "X" is not just some funky code name, it really is from the roman numeral 10.  OS 10 = OS X.  OS X is just much more catchy sounding than OS 10.  It's just marketing crap.

They never marketed OS 9 as anything but OS 9.

Previous systems used arabic numbers, so everyone called them MacOS [number], I'd say.

By the way, I found it all highly suspious how WindowsXP used an X as well. And then macromedia came out with their aptly title cross platform Studio MX (Flash, Dreamweaver and some other apps). Which one was first? OS X or WinXP?

It never occured to me to call it OS Ex. To me, it was always clear that the X in OS X was the roman numeral for 10, and therefore always assumed it was pronounced "ten".

That and the fact that over here, in Quebec, I have never heard anybody prononce it as a letter in French, but always as the number: "OS dix".

Doesn't it seem to coincidental that these products have the word "sex" subliminally hidden in their name? I use to think the idea that Apple and Microsoft meant to slip in "sex" was crazy, but now I am beginning to think the did slip it in on purpose. After all, sex sells.
