Game in Version 1.3 fails to load

Hardcoded path to D:\StarControl_BM\ in exe-files?

My copy is also on GOG and wont open anymore.

As I had not enough space left, I formerly installed Star Control Origins on a usb-drive with the letter D.
Now i have a new SSD and uninstalled the game and installed it on my new "G-Drive" - I downloaded the latest and only available Version via GOG Galaxy.

When I start the game, the loading screen shows and in the background an error log is written, that is telling me the game ist still looking on D:\ for files. Exactly at D:\StarControl_BM\Main\... i do not remember if I installed it there, but i think not, because i do not tend to include _ into folder names...

Searching with Notepad++ for D:\StarControl_BM in all files in my installation (G:\Star Control Origins\) reveals, that in some exe-files "D:\StarControl_BM" seems to be hardcoded...

Please respond!

After applying the Hotfix, it now looks in a different path, still on the wrong HDD...

Error:
D:\BuildM_SCO_MainStage\Main_Stage\Libs\UI\Src\UI_Functions.cpp Line: 404
XML Parse Error: unexpected end of data

Sorry that you're having trouble.

The path ("D:\BuildM_SCO_MainStage\...") does not refer to your local machine, but the actual code file used by the machine that built the game.  The important error is the "XML Parse Error: unexpected end of data".

Did you submit a crash report with your email address so that we can quickly find it?

How do I submit a crash report, when the game does not start at all?

Looked really really looked for a "Submit a Ticket"-Link  or "Report a Bug" at the StarDock homepage(s), but the only Support-Link I found was this forum!

So I opened a ticket at GOG (https://support.gog.com/hc/de/requests/355827) and posted here.

yes i understand, that the path should not mean my mashine, just as it looks like, it is an absolute path rather than a relative.
and the "Line: 404" could be read as error 404 file not found, and when there is no file, the end of data is really unexpected.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I would like to start with having you delete your settings.ini from:

\Documents\My Games\Star Control

After, skip using the Galaxy Client and try running StarControl_DX11.exe from the current install directory directly (again, with the Galaxy Client closed).  It should be in:

\Star Control - Origins\Game

with a bunch of its other files (don't mind that my screenshots are in Steam, you should still have the same files for the game):

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If that still fails, to a cloud drive (Google Drive, OneDrive, PasteBin, DropBox), please post your RunLog.txt from:

\Documents\My Games\Star Control

and post a link to it here in a reply.  I would also like to know if a new settings.ini was created after the direct run attempt.

The Galaxy client is less important than the Steam client for running the game but I want to try something....

Uninstall from your USB drive and back on your SSD.  When you open the properties for the game, does it have the correct folder here:

If not, or even if it does, open your registry (regedit.exe) and paste this in the top bar and hit Enter:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\GOG.com\Games\1893867643

Which should bring this up:

Take note of all the paths - are they correct when installed on your SSD?

Hmm... after again uninstalling and installing again on G, the game now works on G -.-
I'd suggest closing this and suspect, something went wrong in the registry the 1st time

Thanks for your efforts and sorry for the trouble!
