Try launching sins from the stardock launcher, permanent loading wheel, force sign out to regain control

Hi everyone, I’ve just recently purchased a new laptop (Alienware R5 17) so of course i wanted to experience sins rebellion with the new horsepower upgrade and some mods.

Ive insured all drivers and all windows updates are complete, I’ve even gone as far as doing a complete reset and fresh install of windows along with disabling any and all virus protections and firewalls to see if the issue was there...

But still no no avail I have not been able to get sins to launch, I can get ashes of the singularity to launch and play just fine along with any other game. When I launch sins from the stardock launcher I get a permanent loading wheel, and I have to sign out to regain control I can’t even use task manager to try and kill the program.

Ive tried validating the files through steam and what’s weird I can validate back to back and every time I validate it says a file is missing and will be re acquired but it seems to never re acquire said file. I’m assuming that is were my problem is.. but I do not know what file it is or where to go to obtain this file if validation cannot retrieve it.

Thank you to anybody willing to assist with this issue.

Does running the "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion.exe" and/or "Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Dev.exe" files directly from the install directory work?

I'm assuming the two files in the middle are the .exe files? i cannot find any files with the extension .exe directly in the name. If this is the case yes i have tried both and get the same result. And i still have the issue with the validation not retrieving mystery file.

Correct

i cannot find any files with the extension .exe directly in the name.

Control Panel -> File Explorer Options -> View

Clear the "Hide extensions for known file types" checkbox if you want to see file extensions.

If they do not work then the issue is not with the Stardock launcher.

You might have to write to Stardock support on this one, it sounds like Sins is not starting correctly on your new rig for some reason.

Ok, so confirmed those two files in my snip are the .exe files and they do not work.

Any idea on what my missing file could be that verify cannot retrieve?

I've read through stardocks troubleshooting page for sins and i read something about a "bad .bin" file, and i cannot seem to locate a file with the extension .bin... unless its hiding from me outside of the main folder.

Update... I tried using dev from the stardock launcher and it actually worked... both times i tried it!

So getting the game to run isn't a total failure

Strange.

Try deleting your rebellion.user.setting file. One of the reasons the dev.exe will sometimes work but not the main executable is that the dev starts up in windows mode by default and has its own setting file. Deleting the rebellion.user.setting file will cause the game to revert back to the default settings, which might fix something like a bad resolution being saved.

Done and still no luck, computer acts like it wants to launch the game. Stuck loading wheel and no other functions will work other than sign out. Dev still works though.

I am still getting "1 file failed to validate and will be re acquired in steam" it is the same 18.8Mb file everytime steam downloads it. But i can go right back to validate and it'll download the same file again. Maybe this is the issue?
