Maiden, Judas priest, Kiss, Van Halen - All spandex and sweatbands, and they were bands that were there in the beinning of metal.
Hair Bands were make-up and bright clothing.

I think you all are probably dissapointed with Metallicas new stuff but insist on babbling mad tales of how incredible and brilliant this recording is merely to render me irrelevant and to crush my vote and silence my voice forever into non compus mentus status.

Yeah, whatever, bud.  I don't think that anyone said it was brilliant or incredible.  If you read it again and comprehend what you read, people are talking about it not being as craptacular as their last two albums.  You obviously don't like Metallica, so why do you even post to this thread?  And, when you do post, why don't you point out examples of why you do or don't like it instead of making passive aggressive blanket statements?

Anyone can post that "that band sucks" or "here's an article and it sums it up for me" or personally attack somebody because they disagree.  But you have yet to actually mention anything that *you* dislike about this album and why *you* dislike Metallica.  I don't care about articles written by other people.  Anyone can parrot somebody else's view.

(Oh, and I believe that the phrase is actually spelled: "non compos mentis".  And how can your voice become not of sound mind? It doesn't make a lot of sense: "silence my voice forever into a not of sound mind status." )

Times do change. I have been listening to Rock for over 35 + years now and it's all coming full circle back to the roots which is the blues and R&B. Metallica has to make some changes to stay a up with the times. Their best albums were thier first few and JUSTICE FOR ALL and the Black album (can't remember the name).

Bands are a dime a dozen now and you have to be able to change to survive.

Black album (can't remember the name).

That was it.  It was just called the black album as far as I know.

Actually it was self-titled "Metallica" but is known as the black album for the black cover.

That, and their press releases refer to it as the "black" album

All medial music sucks. Especially metallica. Their instramentals picked it up this time. The volcals are completley heinus.. It is like he is trying to use the old vocals with the new 'hard' music. They suck ass. Or in their words 'the new album is going to sound just like Messugah,' what posers. They're washed up.

I refer you to what one of the great minds here at wincusto said:

And your point? i just thinkl people should not bash metallica for not playing what THEY want to hear.

This sounds like the same old wincustomize idea to me. Squash those who have a different opinion than the majority, or those who don't agree with the Admins.
Metallica lost all its respectability when it went against file sharing. I wonder if they are liked here by the admins because they support the banishment of file sharing.
This must be the case because they cannot begin to compare with the Rock greats.

Bands like Journey, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. This is what metal is suppose to sound like. Everything I've ever heard from Metallica sounds like it can't determine the difference between a chorus, a solo, or even a verse. And they have no solos in the new album? hahaha. Isn't this what makes metal great? Leave out Angus Young or Neal Schon solo's on their prospective bands albums and tell me if it would be as good. I don't think so.
Metallica can't even compare to Def Leppard(Pyromania) or Poison(Open Up And Say Ahh..). They are just a bunch of wannabe Rock Star whinners.
The one time I heard a song from them I turned it off after fifteen seconds.
Anyone else have St. Anger? Not me!! They couldn't pay me to even listen to it. Having to suffer through a Metallica album is torture like I wouldn't even wish on Saddam Hussein.
If you want real Metal Music try Led Zeppelin I-IV. I wonder why anyone would even start a thread on Metallica except that they are against file sharing, so this site wants to support them. It doesn't matter that their music sucks.
Why didn't someone start a thread on the new live DVD Led Zeppelin? Maybe it is because they didn't waste their time with trying to get recognition in going against file sharing. They prefer to let their music speak for itself. Metallica can't even compare to KISS or REO Speedwagon. At least these bands have originality. Where's the originality in Metallica? None/Zip.UGHHHhhhhhh

I started this thread and I'm not an admin.. So everything you said about that just went out the door.

In fact, I started this thread and haven't said anything about anyone elses opinion. You have your opinion and I'm not about to judge that. You think your opinion holds more water than everyone elses..... Why the hell in the world would I only start a thread about Metallica just because of the fact I'm against file sharing? You know nothing about me and that's not the case.

Why didn't you start a thread on Led Zeppelin? DO NOT think my knowledge and experience of music is limited. I have a VERY open mind and love MANY types of music; that is very fundamental of being a DJ.

About the Admins. squashing opinions, well take it up wit them.

Ah...'tis but ChasUGC by yet another name. Metallica was bagged by so many people over the Napster issue for standing up for the legitimate rights of the artist protecting his/her property. The Wincustomize.com Admins, and other responsible members of this site also stand up for the rights of an artist's property. Perhaps the parallel promotes symbiosis.....frankly I don't give a 'rat's'...we don't squash opinions, we simply do not promote property theft...

But...my 2 cents on St Anger.....I prefer the slower, 'heavier' style.....often equated to that of slowere tempo than your heartbeat, rather than faster.....like many of the works by Man O War.....so I'm less enamoured with this latest offering than Load, etc...

You know what the funny thing is about that?  Read Mr. anthony roberts posts.  (The quote he made was from me).  He does not agree with me.  He doesn't like Metallica at all.  But, he also has a sense of wit about it.  We are not saying that people shouldn't post what they think.  We are saying that if they disagree to post *why*.  Just saying "that sucks" has no merit.  Saying "that sucks because there are no guitar solos and the bass sounds like a dying cat" says a reason for it sucking.  Can you comprehend that?  I could care less if somebody disagrees with me (and trust me, the admins don't share the same brain, either) But, I really don't like it when somebody jumps in a thread and disagrees just to stir the pot.

(edited to correct typos before Jafo found them...)

Who said Metallica HAS to sound like anything? My whole point was that THEY ARE PLAYING WHAT THEY WANT to play because as a band they have that right. They do not have to perform metal to anyones standanrds.

Think how life would be if we all just blindly agreed with each other,it would suck, but how we disagree with each other does define who we are.

aww I have grown fond of you too

Akka Dakka is 'heavy rock', not 'heavy metal'....as is the Strolling Bones...to me, Heavy Metal is the likes of Sabbath and Purple......I'm thinking the Machinehead and Paranoid vintage....you know, about when the genre originated...and before it was confused/diluted by thrash, death, and others of the ilk who couldn't actually hold a tune...
