I'd just like to say that whoever decided to put so much new stuff into WB4 obviously had no idea how insane it would drive me trying to keep up! I actually spent a matter of hours just trying to get the little '+' and '-' on a treeview to look pixel perfect. I shouldn't be allowed to skin...

Dinks was always my fave skin. Will be great to have the update.

Yes. As you might have noticed, this bug appears in all builds of WBAmp. WB broke an internal WB Plugin API function. That is an issue that is being addressed. It will be fixed in one of the next releases of WB.

Well things are progressing nicely. I just have a few small bugs to fix, and some general tidying up, and then hopefully I'll be releasing 'dinksDX' by Saturday night at the latest. This has all been quite a learning experience, and a major headache in some instances, as this is the first time I've done most of this stuff. A rogue spelling mistake didn't help much either.

Here's a look at the latest progress, which is intended more for getting some early pre-release feedback more than simply hyping up a new skin.

Let me know what you think, and any areas you'd like to see improved. One thing I'm considering doing at the moment is lightening the white titlebar buttons a little, and possibly losing the multi-colour mouseovers on them.

By the way, at this point in time every part of Windows is skinned that I'm aware of WindowBlinds supporting. The parts not supported by SkinStudio were something of a mind-bender.

The menu that you show in the screenshot appears to be slightly off-white. Maybe you could try making it whiter and see if you like it. Just MHO.

Grayhaze, how bout making some custom shell images? Just an idea...

DavidMandle>> The off-white of the menu background is intentional so that there's a slight highlight along the top edge. I'm going to try lightening a few parts of the skin today, so I'll see if it makes sense to do the same to the menus. I tend to think that too much pure white in an interface can cause eye strain, and I'm really aiming for this to be a long-term useable OS skin.

Hus>> I take it you're talking about the background images in the main explorer windows which are currently enlargements of standard XP icons. While I considered creating my own images, I decided that the designers at Microsoft got things right the first time. So rather than creating images which potentially conflict with whatever icons the user has installed, I thought it made far more sense to simply recolour and resize the original images to match the skin.

Perhaps if someone at some point decided to make an icon theme to match the skin, then I could use those in place of the originals. While I'm capable of creating simple icons in small numbers, I don't think a whole theme is within my abilities or patience.

I favor the colour of the Titlebar as it is. If you were to change anything (for the sake of font to background contrast), you could make the font text a bit darker, if it's possible to do so. I'm afraid that if you lightened the buttons (as you mentioned in #13) too much, you may lose the shadow effect.

Things are still on track for a release tomorrow, and I've taken some of the comments I've received into consideration. I've tuned up the design quite a lot today, and sorted out all the sub-designs too.

Due to the problems with not being allowed to upload an installer to the site, this skin may not be the easiest to configure for the novice user. How confident do people here feel about creating/editing a 'wbuser.ini' file with paths to common applications? I'll try to include detailed instructions with the skin, and I'm hoping that everyone will read them before I get the rush of 'bug report' e-mails.

Grayhaze, I'm not sure what programs you used, but if it's common items such as media player, notepad, etc., you can pull up registry info for locations rather than hard-coding the paths. If you still have to hard-code paths, you can use the %SystemRoot% command to make sure you atleast have the right drive. I'm sure you already know this though...

I've already tried what you suggest Hus, and it doesn't seem to work with WindowBlinds command buttons. As for reading registry values, I'm not really sure what you mean. I intended the installer to look at the registry to find the paths and put them into the 'wbuser.ini' file, but I wasn't aware that you could just call on a registry value on the fly.

Is it possible to call upon scripts with those buttons Grayhaze? If so, you could write simple VBS scripts to get the registry setting and then launch application. Not sure if WB would allow such a thing though...
