WinCustomize needs a new calculator.

Unless it's a "bug" of some kinda, does it really matter what the count says?!

Nah, it dont matter, but its kind of lame having a counter that doestnt work. Its just like having a watch that never tells the correct time.

Ah. We talked about the same thing with some people yesterday on IRC. We couldn't figure it out too. We know that several calculations are being betatested. This all has to do with making the system more fair. The original system was being abused by some skinners. Please give the admins time to come up with a definite system.

However, I do feel it is about time that we finally have a permanent system. That would at least prevent discussions like these. Most of these discussions are damaging the image of the site, because some people suspect intentional misconduct by the admins. I do not suggest that your question does imply that, but I would love to see those discussions ended.

Apocalypse: you can't see the WC downloads (downloads from logged-in members of WC), but as T-Man said in the sticky thread on that topic, it's those numbers that are used for the top 10 lists, not the number of total downloads. The numbers listed appear to be exact.

Apocolypse: I believe that the numbers in the top 10 list are not divided by 10 anymore....so if it says 567, then it IS 567, and not 5670. I think this is what is confusing you.

Actually, I think he is talking about the total downloads, not WC downloads. I've noticed it too before, though usually they aren't off by anymore than 10 or 20.

A-67.....what say you translate your post number #1 into English......and explain exactly what numbers and where that you find a counting difference. I have a suspicion that everyone is talking cross-purposes...

Now, if you add the 3 numbers in bold, they add up to 4079 The Top Author List displays 377 (witch I assumed is 3770 after divided by 10)

Two days ago the sum of those same three totals, added 4080 And on the Top Author List went all the way up to 540 (assuming again that its 5400)

Now, if what Boxxi said its right, and the numbers are not divided by 10 anymore, then the counter it’s really way off the mark.

That’s my whole confusion.

The counter is not off....540 will be the number of downloads from people logged on to the site.

The 377 you see for the total WC downloads is indeed the number you see next to your name in the Top 10 authors. Nothing is broken. As we said, the top download lists do not use the total downloads anymore, but only the WC downloads, which represents the number of downloads by WC loged-in members.

No wonder people are confused. Are you actually saying out of 4000 downloads 3500 are not downloaded from here? If WC is the biggest site then where are the others coming from?

Fuzzy, they are all downloaded from here, except you don't need to log in to download. Most downloads are done anonymously, from people who never create an account.

I'm not trying to start anything here; just curious. Why don't the non-logged in downloads count?
From the non-logged in counts vs the logged in counts, it seems there are a lot of people that visit the site and download without logging in (no way to tell, I guess, if they are regular visitors or one-timers).

If I missed why this is so on some other post, my apologies

Thankx for the visual Paxx. I see now why I was so confused with this numbers.

I really would encourage admins to give those stats too in the list, referred to as "raw downloads" and "logged on downloads" when the search for the counting system is over and a final decision is made how to calculate/count downloads.

That is amazing stats paxx. 600,000 + members and out of 4000 downloads only 400 or so are from logged in members. Hum.

OK...for those who aren't aware, but ARE following this thread.....the anonymous downloads that are not factored into formulating the list of 'top authors' can be from legitimate AND illegitimate sources....namely off-site linking to adversely affect a person's ranking...sad, but true.

The way it is working now, the downloader must actually be logged into this site to be counted, thus the resulting 'rankings' correctly reflect the 'position' of the artists' popularity within THIS site and not from elsewhere.

So, the rankings are now more representative of the Wincustomize.com's community, and are far less likely to be the result of system abuse.  Just put it down to the desire/s of the site's administrators to see a level playing field for all...

Now, if we can only figure out a way to force the remaining downloaders to log on. Just a quick suggestion. If the log-on users downloads are the ones that count for the top lists. Wouldnt it be good to dispaly those numbers on My Skins also? Just an idea

A_67, that would give you an inaccurate count of the overall people who download your stuff. Then you would only be a 1000. hehe
