About to buy WindowBlinds 10 but I need to resolve a font-problem I have in the Trial before

I haven't really used WindowBlinds since the early Windows 7 days but I loved it from the XP-era till then. Now that the .msstyles community for Windows 10 isn't all that great anymore I thought I would give WB another try and did so in a Virtual Machine with the latest Windows 10 1803 release and liked it so I thought about buying the whole ObjectDesktop package but I've ran into a small problem.

Without WindowBlinds active I could easily change the system-font of my Win10 install via WinAero Tweaker and also a registry method, however as soon as I apply any WindowBlinds skin, in my particular case "The Captain", my system font on my Desktop-icons and inside Windows Explorer reverts back to Segoe UI.

I'm aware that WindowBlinds itself has font settings but no matter what I set in WindowBlinds or override in the skin settings the The Captain skin will always show SegoeUI. Is this a bug due to WindowBlinds not being updated yet for Windows 10 build 1803, am I doing something wrong or what is going on here?

If I purchase Object Desktop and get Skin Studio would I then be able to hard-edit The Captain with a different font? I don't really want to buy anything till I am sure I can change my font system-wide again. As said font-changing works flawlessly aslong as WindowBlinds isn't active.

Thanks for help in advance!

This is the information I can give you. I thought skinstudio came with Windowblinds. however it was a separate download found in the SD store.

I did however check out The Caption skin for you. Not all sections but as far as the startmenu and taskbar buttons they are set to the OS default so I would think in win10 you could change the os fonts. But I use SKS for that and don't mess with the windows settings. So I changed the startmenu text and TB buttons text in SKS "Edit Start Menu/left hand side and also Right hand side.' The Item Mouseover on both changes the color and font. and Edit horizontal Taskbars/taskbar buttons.buttons. Opened the Caption skin in SKS changed the TextFont to one in SKS named "Titlebar Inactive"  to try it. This font is bigger and it did apply to the Caption skin. also tried it on the TB buttons. so it does change and work.

Note: any changes you make don't forget to always click "Apply"

Not sure this is what you are looking for but hope it helps you.

Thanks for the help DaveBax and thanks for the link Rohan that helped a great deal even though I still couldn't narrow the problem down, let me show screenshots:

As you can see I literally changed everything I could to Comic Sans MS as a test (that font is ideal for testing :P) and yet while large parts of the UI changed the Windows Explorer and the Desktop still remains as Segoe UI, I'm really stumped.

SkyyDX:   you can change all you want in SKS. However you still have to associate all the locations in SKS for each.

Example. All the fonts for locations that are set to OSdefault will still be osdefault. You would have to locate all those locations in SKS and change the font to your font. EX: TheCaption WB. I gave the location above. You would have to go and change the osdefault to your font. All the different places you have to change in SKS.

In windows Explorer win 7/8 and file Explorer win10 the font size is controlled by Windows itself and no changing it.

Ask away and I or someone will try to assist you best we can.

Thanks, much appreciated DaveBax! I fixed the issue, after changing every font-entry for The Captain in SKS I had to disable the Global Font Override in WB itself that was still enabled, I guess the Global Override setting is broken at the moment but I'm happy now! :)

Great. I said above you can't change the explorer text but actually you can. glad you figured it out.

A little update from me, I discovered a bug in SkinStudio aswell which might explain my issues even better. Upton further testing today I found out that changing the SystemFonts in SKS, saving the changes and then applying the skin from within SKS does not apply the System Fonts!

To get the System Fonts applied you have to save the skin in SKS, open WindowBlinds, switch to any other skin and then back to your edited skin, then everything will be correctly applied.

That isn't a bug.  Think of SkinStudio as making changes to the Skin and saving to file.  WindowBlinds is needed to apply the changed skin file.  The changes you are making in the skin file are not active until after you apply the skin.

Hmm that makes sense yeah, although SKS has the ability to apply skins doesn't it? It certainly does when I save a skin that is currently active, all changes are made get applied except System Font settings.

Yes and no. Actually any image changes will change when you change them in SKS and click apply.

What you may have a problem with and have to apply another skin then the skin you are working on is mostly pertaining to anything changed on the Explorer window. Such as a font change or color change. Fonts are what is being changed in this case. Also in most cases closing the Explorer window and opening it again works. Again in this case changing a system font will may require loading another skin and loading the one you changed again.

WindowBlinds reloads windows explorer and the windows system settings such as fonts.  SKS does not do that (I think).

BigDog for the normal stuff closing Explorer if the changes didn't apply and opening it will so the changes. not many skinners change the system fonts. But if they are changed you are correct and switching a WB and going back to the one you are changing most likely be needed. Only mentioned what I did because changing system fonts, yes but anything else and you don't see the change closing explorer and opening again will do the trick. Just faster when you can do it this way. Sometimes I try to point something out and get confused myself.

I see the difference now, SKS only forces a quick-refresh to mostly update images and such someone has edited while WB itself forces a full refresh, did I get that right? In my case restarting explorer manually didn't update the fonts either, I have to force a WB refresh for them to show up. Now that I know this it's no problem but maybe SKS could add a little warning that, if some changes don't show up, the user should do a WB refresh.
