Show Desktop causes Explorer to crash in W10

Show Desktop causes Explorer to crash in W10

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX THIS BUG?

Guess what, every time I try to use 'show desktop' Fences causes explorer to crash.  You have known about this bug for months and given us no feed back on this topic.  The usual 'do a fresh install' but you know that will not fix it!

Why haev I put this in multiple times??  Irritating isn't it??

Gues what, it's more than irritating that your software doesn't work properly and causes explorer to crash.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about your frustration. Could you tell us more about your problem. I can't seem to find your previous post where your problem was listed.

Thanks.

don't tell me to do a clean up and re-install, I've done that multiple times.  It's a software bug with YOUR software.

Are you going to try to fix it??  or not?

We can click on 'show desktop' and do not see the issue, Dave. With that, logic demands that we see why it is happening for a small group but not the majority - you would agree, yes?

That said, have you done a clean boot, Dave?  I ask as there may be an app conflict and this process will go far to potentially expose it (as being the cause not the offending app or setting)

No I wouldn't agree.  It means that one your machine, with your software it doesn't happen.  It doesn't mean that your set up is more representative of the masses.

Yes I have done a clean boot. Makes no difference.

Is there any log that I can upload to help you debug?

I did not say my PC, Dave, I said 'we'; and by that, 'we' = myself and the collective majority of others using Fences.

Please make no mistake, I don't doubt that you are seeing it, and that you are notably frustrated by it - however, it does not rule out (in fact, quite the contrary) that there is an app or setting that is causing the issue.  That also does not mean we do not need to compensate for it when it is found.  If it is easy enough to fix, and can conceivably be seen to be encountered by many (even if not currently), it would be addressed.

As for the clean boot, there are two things that need to be done and not usually both palatable to all (a pain if you will).

One is creating a new Windows Administrator (<---- important) account; the other is disabling all non-windows apps and services (excluding Fences).  Did you do both, Dave?

It works perfectly for me without any problems. It must be something from your windows ...

I would like to suggest that they improve the Fences software towards the possibility of having an accurate and more significant grid (configurable to measure) to better position the tabs and icons, also that there are more options of size of icons .. Thank you very much

Some questions:

  • What AV product are you using and is it running even after the clean boot?
  • Is this PC in a corporate or home environment?
  • Is the PC fully up-to-date with Windows update?  You can check here:
    https://images.stardock.com/support/2018-04-27_10-00-37.png
  • Do you have other PCs where this is also observable?
  • Are you using DeskScapes as well or any other app that's purpose it to animate the desktop (even MS slideshow setting in 'Background' settings)?

  • AV product?  Audio Visual?? - not sure what you're asking here.
  • Corporate laptop, GE.
  • Yes, it's up to date.
  • I'm the only one in the office that uses it.  I'll install a trial on another laptop and see what happens
  • Nope

I assume that 'nope' means that it works fine on said laptop?  If so:

  • Was the laptop also part of the corp network?
  • Does the same AV product exist on each if so?
  • Does your work use 'WebSense' (a question easily answered by your IT people)?

Another user on a corporate laptop with this issue. I can't find Forcepoint or Websence on my computer, but it's likely there's some other corporate malware security on my device.

Any IT people at your place of business could help finding that out.
