There may be others a lot worse than the example you gave, but I honestly don't think a child would even notice the one slightly dodgy element of that screenshot. I'm unsure whether you're opposed to scantily-clad anime girls, or whether you're honestly offended by that image.

Yes I am opposed to 'scantily clad anime girls' and Ill admit that a 4yr old wouldnt do something like that...

I think that they are nicely drawn and not the least pornographic. If that's what EventHorizon is aiming at, but don´t dare to say.

Darn it...that one was a close call.

No actual 'nudity', just that typical cruddy 'anime' imagery that is strangely popular.

2 admins were 'not sure about it' [me being one] and a third thought we were being overly cautious.

In fact, my concern wasn't with 'cartoon cleavage' but with the Japanese pre-occupation with depiction of 'uncertain' age/maturity of the figures....'little girls with boobs' if you know what I mean....THAT was my 'concern'.

Perhaps I am being 'conditioned' by years of life-drawing ... and am less affected by such as some...but if a concensus requests such be removed then perhaps it should...

I have no problem with that image.  I don't find it offensive.

Of course, I have also had life drawing classes, and can appreciate the human form. 

If there was some sort of sexual scene or something like that, I would object to it.  But, you can pick up a copy of people magazine and see actresses wearing less than that.

One IS worth removing so that we dont have little kids paying visits to the screenshots and saying, "Mommy, mommy, look at that!..

If a child were to say that due to that image, I guess they have never gone to the beach with their parents...

(Oh, and yes, I am a Mom of a 4 year old.  So, I *am* looking at this as a parent.)

Another way to look at it is that the screenshot section is intended to show-off your brilliant/clever desktop environment, and not be quite as childishly immature as this one is...

I can see the problem with the age thing but then you have to consider this:

Are there a bunch of rules that can be applied that will make sure anyone using anime drawings won't be whupped (certain boob size? wrinkly face? I mean come on)

The linked image does not look particularly young...or old..that is the problem with anime you cannot easily see ages (unless it has been drawn to be obvious)

Other thing

Possibility of a wallpaper with one of those young, yet professional, anonymous models (you know, the ones that usually end up in middle pages of magazines like maxim). Age 18 in a bikini or summat. Age cannot be verified, must that wall paper be banned? must all models in any wallpapers have age verification?

I find Terragen images offensive, could you please censor and remove all of them too

Personnally, I find strange that some people enjoy sensual looking cartoons, but Ihave nothing against it. There is no nudity, there is no sexual act; this is not pornography. At the most, one could find it erotic (although it is still just a cartoon); and some people do consider this art. I personnally find nothing exciting about a half dressed cartoon, but I find nothing offensive about it either. 

The wording of the thread title (i.e. the use of the word slut) says to me it's not really an attempt to sheild a 4-year old from something like that, but merely a prudish outburst.

The problem you're reaching here though, is one man's smut is another's art. There have been WAY too many debates on what art is and isn't, and I really don't want to get tied up into that type of debate (please don't go there). In reality, in my opinion (which really dosen't mean much BUT!) there really hasn't been anything that you don't see on network TV, or in the magazine rack of your local conveinence store, or supermarket for that matter (ie: Maxim etc.). Any little kid who goes to those places or watches tv will see that. So is it right or wrong really?

So finishing up with the example posed, I'll tell you what, I've seen a whole lot more flesh on a real girl on the cover of Sports Illustrated before.

I don't like the Anime fetish but thats just my own view .... and I'm not against walls featuring them, but I would prefer to use a desktop with Dolphins, Palm Trees, Rainbows and Lensflares, with one of those sophisticated chrome 'half ring things' as a central motif .... rendered in Bryce of course!

I didn't even raise an eyebrow over that one, it's actually pretty tame. Go to the mall or any place that might have anime images and you'll see pretty much the same thing and they are all on public display. (not to mention scantily clad men or women on magazines even at the grocery store checkout.) I think this is much ado over nothing. It's just fine that you may want to keep your children from seeing certain things but what is acceptable to one may not be acceptable to another. What you do see around has been deemed as publicly acceptable by society as a whole and I doubt seriously everyone is going to change anything to suit those in the minority frame of thought. They will have to do their own screening and censoring if they want to shield their children from what is commonly available. You are the parent and it's not up to society to conform to what standards you may deem as acceptable for your children...that's your responsibility as a parent.

EV, it's expressed opinions that bring about change...they may not always be aggreed with, but without them things sure would be dull. Don't keep them to yourself. I may get flamed for what I just said...but that's ok...what matters is that I can say it.
