Object Dock backgrounds help

Hi, I see there are some object dock backgrounds but when I try to apply them it gives me a msg saying I havent selected anything. When it's packaged in a theme it works (a downloaded theme) Would someone please email or post me detailed instructions on how to do this? I would appreciate it very much.

Open the OD Properties dialog................... select a Background from the dropdown list. That's really all there is to it.

Excuse my ignorance, I dont see a drop down menu on object dock. When I go into the properties, I dont see it. Please more help. Thanks
