Game Freezes with every click

on Large Maps or Bigger

Anyone having a problem with Galactic Civilizations 3 Crusade freezing and running VERY slow on Large maps later in the game, like after turn 20 or so? I am running the newest version 2.71 and the problem has been there for quite a long time. Usually I give up playing and start over a new game. Or even just stick to smaller maps.

I have a very good laptop that should not have any problems with this game. Its an MSI GT72 VR 6RD Dominator Bought just for gaming and it is fast and smooth with other games so I am assuming its NOT the laptop. So what gives? Any ideas? I have looked over the settings and I do NOT see anything that stands out to me that would slow things down. I'm no expert so I need your help!

I am currently playing a LARGE map with 10 players, 9 AI and Me. I was good until turn 17 when it starts to freeze for several seconds every time I click "OK" on something and change screens. Or when any ship movement there is a pause of several seconds before you can move on. Any updates on planets, each placement of an improvement has a pause of several seconds. Drives Me NUTS!! Eventually I just give up and stop playing that game. A medium or smaller map can finish to the end no problems.

Any Ideas? PLEASE tell me its not just the game and everyone else has same problem...

I have an Acer Aspire 5750G and play on the largest map with 14 opponents with no problem.

Have you tried reducing the graphical settings?

Or checked your virtual memory?

I was hoping to not have to turn down graphics, But I will try that. I am not sure of how to set the Virtual Memory setting for the game. I will have to look that up. Thanks

Virtual memory allocation is not a setting just for the game.

Look here.

Thanks for the link. I have set the Virtual Memory from "default" to "custom" and set up parameters as 32GB x 1.5 for minimum and 32GB x 3 for Maximum. I used the scale on the website. I have reset several times and made sure all changes took affect. Sadly no improvement in the game. The pauses are almost 15 seconds at times. Longer when adding modules to a starbase. I have turned down screen resolution and used low res graphics settings with no improvement either. I was thinking of recording a video to show how bad the pausing is.

Any help or Ideas is MUCH appreciated...

Thanks,

Are your drivers up to date?

Another thing you could try is to verify the integrity of game cache, but I'm not sure that will help.

Last resort would be to uninstall the game, as detailed here under The Purge and then install the game again.

Does your machine have two video cards?  If so, you may wish to try and force it to use the better card.

Laptops are slow and weak like the Altairs.  Almost 0 lag on my 3.6  GHZ Alienware Desktop.  You need a 16GB Ram machine.  Gal civ use 6GB Ram.  8GB ram machine will use up all their Ram on this.  Take it to a computer store and add 8GB of RAM for $40.

Based on the machine specs I am pretty sure it has enough ram general Patton. If other games are running fine the problem is probably elsewhere. How much RAM does the laptop have? 16? 32? Did this happen before the last major windows 10 update?

One thing about this style game v others you might play. 4X and other simulation games are not graphics hogs. Primarily they are CPU and RAM hogs as they have A LOT more information to process than your typical RTS or FPS game. As such they can drag your system down a lot easier.
