The CD I am really looking forward to is Weird Al Yankovic's CD. This community would respect him because he always asks the original artists of the songs he parodies for permission even though he has no legal obligation to do so.

I can't wait for Weird Al. He really makes me laugh.

As an ironic side note, as said previously, Rob Trujillo from Ozzy's band has joined Metallica.
And his replacement in Ozzy's band?............Jason Newsted!

I agree with knatzz's thesis message #21. I am partially responsible for aiding and abetting the rise of this band including crybaby rock star Lars Ulrich and it just makes me sick. The early stuff they did was cool but their days as a band were basically over after their final release And Justice for all, as far as I am concerned.

I don't feel that bad about it cause it's not like I was saying seig heil while bodies where being piled like cords of wood, I was only helping to support a band that turned into a bunch of A**hs, its not like I was supporting a regime that participated in genocide, (a strange analogy) but when I see these guys do interviews and say all sorts of crap like James Crapfield saying” the people who support us are just loser metal heads."As well as other comments like the one I just mentioned,it sure makes me want to see their fall.

Now, again, this not word for word if it’s from the same interview/article that you’re talking about, but this is at least the correct context.

You can hear a 30 second preview of the new tune "Frantic". All of the tunes that I heard are easily this heavy.

I heard frantic at the MTV Icons thingy, and it's VERY promising indeed. Can't wait for the new album now.

You know... I agree with a little of this, and a little of that. No question Metallica was great in the beginning. But so are all bands!

We're talking about metallica being great in the beginning...um how many years ago what that??? I know I was about 15 when I had started listening to them... Ummmm I'm 32 now! That's a freaking long time folks. Hell.. I'm not as 'hard' as I used to be either. Some of the stuff I used to listen to back then, whooo...it'd give me a headache now. But the point is...

Like people change with years... our styles change, our tastes change, our entire outlook changes. God, back then I actually liked "SLAYER"!!! You couldn't pay me to listen to that. Metallica...even though they are mainstream these days, I do still like them. Sell out? Maybe...to a point. But if they stayed as they were, they would never have survived. There has to be change...or there's nothing.
Sorry I still love Metallica.

Look at Ozzy in the beginning... and look at Ozzy in his later albums. MAJOR CHANGE! Majorly softened! However... Ozzy is still the masta! He's not a sellout...he just changed.

Hell look at Manson... the first time I heard his stuff, I thought "What the ...." Thought I should call a priest to bless my house after that (Not really but you get my point) Now he's mellow compared to his first album. They all change.

As for them touring with Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park...
What's wrong with that? I think that would be a kick ass show. Limp, has a couple of decent tunes...and I really like a couple of Linkin's tunes...

Well, i've been reading everyones post, and then i kinda forgot about this whole thread for a very long time. the summer's over, and their new album is out.

What do I think? well, St. Anger was a complete disappointment. their live show...well, they can still give their fans enough energy to love 'em. I was never such a great fan of them. As far as metal goes, i'd say they were to most hardcore American metal band back in the day.

Sellouts? well, i never actually think of bands as sell-outs unless they just appear, and make themselves allbig and showy with the help of MTV. (Good Charlotte). I really don't think that a couple of guys screaming about stupid little problems in life is very artistic but u know what? people like 'em, and I can't change that. Unfortunately, some of you guys took me very seriously on this term , (i.e. hippy ). sry, didn't mean to anger anyone, but i was just using this term because that is what i heard in gossip around the neighborhood.

Finally, Napster. Well, napster is long-gone, and I believe the new hot topic will be Kazaa, or the RIAA cracking down on it's users. I believe that Kazaa is a way to spread music, and that should be EVERY artist's dream, to have their ART spread throughout the world. if it weren't for programs such as Kazaa, i would have never heard of great bands such as Dredg (a peculiar mix of an odd 'Radiohead' and a quiet, artistic 'Tool').

I'll leave it at that.

Oh, and btw, my term 'japs' (for some of u who didn't quite know) are basically selfish little brats that resemble the girls from the movie 'clueless'. U know, only care about clothes and guys, and not the real problems with the world. Sorry if anyone is offended. I've just learned to be really disgustipated by them over the years.

I saw them live with cliff, hehe. Just before he died. Opened for Ozzy (the drunk b&^#!%*) in Knoxville. General admission, no floor seats. Kicked ass. Has to be up there as one of the best shows I ever saw. What was interesting is that one of the roadies was playing rythym since James had his arm in a cast from a skateboard accident, and it was still a great show.

Isn't the term "sell out" something someone came up with because they were upset about someone else achieving success or making money or just whatever in a manner they don't agree with. I've seen people in all walks of life, whether working for the bus barn or upper management make moves in their career that others called a "sell-out". I guess it really comes down to who's shoes you've got on. I could be wrong but I believe that Metallica has had SOME kind of influence on music today. And the person up there that said they aren't orginal, my sons band DRIVEN is signed with Jim Halsey and we are part of "BMI". I can tell you that they were orginal enough that "BMI", "ASCAP" and "EMI" would have a field day with you if you tried to reproduce their work. That's orginal enough for me. Let's not get too hard on them, we all start out having to drink our food and if we are here long enough can sure enough finish this life up drinking our food. Thinks change as things evolve that's just the way it is. Remember this "The only thing in life that stays the same is that everything changes". Just my two cents I've always been a fan and I'm close enough to that industry to say that if you aren't in it, you really have no clue about what really may be going on.

you are right. ALOT of artists thank Metallica for the type and direction of the music they produce.

I beleive EVERY artist has an effect on other artists and their music, whether it be good or bad. Trent Reznor had written the famouse (or infamous) Nine Inch Nails song StarF***ers in direct effect to Marilyn Manson, and they had a little fight going on for a while. (all is calm on the western front now, however). Mettalica has DEFINITELY inspired many of todays artists, i agree with Radial and Kona all the way.

I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't copy the songs from the St Anger cd I *bought*. The cd made my CD-R invisible to the system.
