~~~A question for WINAMP Skiners.~~~
On the Winamp tutorial says the following....
The last step you need to do before unleashing your Skin on the world is to convert it to the WSZ format. How do I do that, you ask? Just follow the following steps:
1) With the Zip compression tool of your choice, zip YOUR skin folder (not the Winamp "Skins" folder)into a .ZIP file.
2) Rename the new file's extension from .ZIP to .WSZ.
3) Test it by removing your skin folder, then placing your .WSZ into the Winamp "Skins" folder.
4) Run Winamp, then press Alt-S to access the Skin browser. If you see your skin, then everything worked correctly.
5) That's it! Pat yourself on the back, then take the next step and submit it to Winamp.com.
Ok, my question is...
How do I rename the file from .ZIP to .WSZ?
Im running XP Pro. And I dont see any function that allowes me to rename the file.
Can someone help me?
I too want to pat my self in the back.
I should have added that you might have to associate .wsz extension in file folder options to open with Winamp proggie.
Move skin folder out of winamp skin folder.
Zip your skin folder.
Then right click the new zip folder menu appears click open.
In the new window click file ,in menu click save as .
Type in skin name.wsz
Make sure you browse to where you want the new file to be before saving.
Hit save button.
That should work.
It will also install the skin automatically in to the winamp skin folder and start winamp.
So you will have two copies of the file.
Delete the one in the winamp skin folder if you want to test install again.
To test install double click new skin file from where ever it is and it will install a copy into the winamp skin folder again.
Also now it is harder to open the new file and rip it off.
Have a nice day!!
yeah... actually if you leave it as a zip it still works... for winamp 2 that is. Haven't played around with 3 to much yet.
funny XP doesn't have an area where you can change how the files are represented and instead of seeing just the file name you see the file extention?
That is why I love Win98 (and 2000)
You can do it on those easily
joe, you can unhide the file extensions in XP the same way you do it in win98.
I usually prefer to leave it as a zip. for a winamp skin. the wsz format is just for automatic install.
... back in the days, I used to complaint to skinners who didn't change the zip extention to wsz format because i hade to self install it into the skin folder. (from uploading it from the net)
Now I just don't care. Just give me the skin.
