The reboot of the Star Control franchise gives us the opportunity to start afresh with a new story and new characters. It avoids trampling on beloved characters and histories (ahem Star Control III) and introduces fans of the classic series to a whole new universe to explore and learn about. We will continue to care-take the classic Star Control games while enabling players to explore the Origins universe as well as create their own universes, characters and lore to share.
NOTE 1: So that we can do full on introductions of each alien race later, we're going to use concept art which should convey what we are going for.
NOTE 2: The art style we are going for in Star Control: Origins is to have a spectrum between cute and horror. Early on, the tone starts out fairly light. You meet the Tywom who are very friendly and cute and serve as your early game guide. You will also meet the Scryve, the ancient empire that ostensibly controls this part of the galaxy. Through the course of the game, things get steadily darker.
So without further delay, let's dive in to the Origins universe.
Journal Entry, November 2087
Space is big. Most people, even today, really have no idea how big space it. Up until the Tywom showed up many people had started to suggest that the reason we hadn't heard from aliens was because there really weren't any. After all, had our radio signals not gone out far already?

Are you humbled? We are.
The tiny blue dot is how far our radio broadcasts have gone. That's 120 light years in every direction. That's about 800 stars total.
All Aliens Great and Small
Space is really big. How many aliens are there? We can't honestly tell you. The Tywom Science Council has given some preliminary hints which we will discuss below.

Humanoids are a minority.
The Measured: There must be order
The measured aren't cute. We only know that they operate the infrastructure of the old Scryve empire. Their weapon of choice system overload and mental manipulation.

They simply want order via well defined processes. Many mid-level managers will like them. A lot.
The Phamyst: You look delicious
The Tywom do not deal with the Phamyst anymore. Their eagerness to please combined with the Phamyst's preferred way dealing with guests are not...compatible.

It is considered rude not to exchange crewmen for Dinner.

Grandma? Is that you?
We will begin having direct contact with Phamyst ships in the November 30, 2087 Fleet Battles simulation. Be prepared.
