Starcontrol: Super Melee Beta v0.69

Hello everyone!

We have a really big update for you that includes lots of gameplay and balance adjustments, local multiplayer, Workshop support, and more.  Read below for details.

IMPORTANT

This update is found on a a Founders-only branch on Steam.  To access it

  • Select Star Control: Origins SMB Beta  in your Steam Library list, 
  • Right-click and select Properties
  • Enter the code: VIPScryveFTW
  • Press check code
  • Select Founders
  • Restart Steam 

Don't share the password with non-founders.  The game on "default" will go away on Monday 

Major Enhancements

  • Enabled Steam Workshop
  • Added Local Multiplayer
  • Improved Controller support
  • Reduced lag in Multiplayer
  • New ship -- Added Scryve Scout with "Self-Destruct" ability

Gameplay 

  • Massive rework of ship balance
  • Drenken boarding parties don't bounce off each other any more
  • Drenken boarding parties are recovered at end of round
  • Balanced sound effects
  • Crashing into planets will no longer (rarely) blast the ship off the z-plane
  • Game will choose a default detail level based on your primary graphics card. 
  • Renamed Slow Slime to Paperwork
  • Jeff is a little smarter.
  • Jeff got a new spaceship
  • Menmack reinforcements are now spawned off camera.
  • AI is a bit braver in approaching the edge of the world
  • The Measured AI is less jittery.
  • The Measured no longer ignore gravity because of science.
  • New visuals for The Measured
  • Ships shouldn't take damage flying in
  • Adjusted the respawn location between round logic 
  • Many small adjustments to asteroid behavior

UI

  • Add sound feedback to all buttons
  • Hammering the "new" button on the crafting screen will no longer do really bad things.  

Crafting

  • Removed Energized Hull and Charged Hull components as they were really unbalanced.  Will revise them later
  • Temporarily emoved the Greegrox and Pnthi ship parts from the ship designer.  
  • Custom Ship Collision is now based on hull size
  • Crafting screen shouldn't leak memory anymore going back and forth between main main
  • Custom ships thumbnails are better framed and are of a higher resolution
  • Bumped up both small and medium hull asset scales for custom ships

MP 

  • Unranked players can be matched with Ranked players in the queue.  However, the unranked player's results will not be counted.
  • Custom ships are no longer allowed in Unranked matches

Bugs

  • Tweaks to the SMB arena bg and stars
  • Resolved a discontinuity in the space-time continuum that allowed you to save fleet that exceeded the maximum points allotted.
  • Weapon sounds are no longer doubled up
  • You can no longer control your ships before selecting them
  • Game no longer locks cursor to the window in melee mode.  
  • Arena ring will no longer suck you out into outer space
  • Removed magic pink from the planet
  • Trails no longer look broken up under certain conditions
  • Add code to prevent a rare-ish crash caused by switch between windowed and fullscreen modes
  • Alt-tabbing from the game  no longer messes up the UI
  • If you play the game in windowed mode at your desktop resolution, saving a ship design no longer crashes the game.  
  • Weapons now fire at the correct locations.  This was really obvious on the Pinthi.
