Galactic Civilization III v2.61 Patch (Released 11/09)

Galactic Civilization III v2.61 Patch (Released 11/09)

Hello,

We have prepared a patch for you focused on squashing bugs and improving balance.  Read below for details

Performance

  • General improvements to turn times.
  • Improved performance on lower end video cards.

Gameplay / Balance

  • [Crusade] Factory output increased.
  • AI much better about prioritizing construction of transports if they have military dominance.
  • Assassination event made more common
  • Fixed issue where the AI move limit was being doubled multiplied.
  • AI now has a separate mid and late game strategy system rather than relying on a single strategy the entire game.
  • Shipyards are no longer transferred to a player when a given player surrenders.
  • More techs provide administrative points.
  • AI bonuses at higher difficulty levels reduced due to improvements in AI.
  • Yellow stars are more likely to have habitable planets than previously.
  • Culture Module balance pass (slight decrease in culture output).
  • Adjacency bonuses for factories made to be the same as research buildings.
  • Cities now require Durantium and Promethion to construct in addition to food.
  • Changed Work Camp from base 5% manufacturing bonus to 2.5%, which makes upgrading to a Forced labor camp (5%) more appealing
  • Added morale bonus to Slave Works upgrade so you didn't lose that bonus from the lower tier improvement
  • Updated Yor tech tree so they can build the advanced research and economic starbase modules.

Multiplayer

  • [Crusade] Unit's gender is now the same on the peer and the host (prevents desyncs)
  • "Word on the Street" calculates the same number of planets for each player  (prevents desyncs)
  • Fixed various other desyncs
  • Custom maps once again load for multiplayer games
  • You can no longer eject ships from starbases you don't own.  Nasty cheaters!

Bugs

  • [Crusade] the planet window now only shows a Legions Available stat, instead of Garrisons and Legions as two separate stats on the screen
  • Fixed incorrect texture on relic ship part
  • Stationing a transport at a starbase will no longer kill everyone on board.
  • The Alerts listbox scrollbar will no longer  scroll past the bounds of the listbox
  • Starbases now correctly show up in the ship style set editor
  • Fixed typos

Yeah no more base game, continue with crusade... probably until next expansion then 3-6 months after they will drop crusade. That is the usual dev cycle for games. Though MOST companies continue with fixing code bugs (exe) but not data. So as long as the core game and the expansions are all using the same base exe then bug fixes will continue for all. Just don't expect data changes, though you could probably back port data fixes that don't require anything beyond the base game. My thoughts anyway.

As for someone whining about spies...  this seems to be a major pitfall for most 4X games. just look at Master of Orion 3 and everything its developers promised.Though one thing it did have over GC3 was a system where population/production did affect each other and you could have large unemployment levels or idle production due to lack of workers. Don't know about any other new 4X games... only played half an hour of Stellaris. On the fence with that game so far. Do miss Imperium Galactica and Overlord though.. though my favorite 4x still has to be Stars!

I didn't read any of what you wrote, I didn't even buy the founder's edition. I mentioned I paid 70 bucks because that means it's not an indie game. Sure, GC3 isn't Triple A, but it's at least A, maybe double A, it's certainly not indie, and it is too bugged to play without mods. Stop projecting.

As far as I understood what was written Frogboy only wants to stop development of the base game, but not of Crusade. I hope I didn't misunderstand though ...
that is correct.

To confirm:

Essentially, GalCiv III v2.61 is the last balance update for the base game. From here on out, it's all Crusade.

some people seem to think that a game must be all things to all people. That's impossible.

The two major things Frogboy's said about GalCiv3 going forward on this thread.

I fear that a lot of people misunderstood Frogboy's statements and think Galciv III is dead as a whole. Since then I see diminishing forum activity as if a lot of people lost interest in the game. Perhaps Stardock should issue an official post stating that Crusade will be further developed.

Iam very very very happy that is was a misunderstanding and crusade still under development!!! That's absolutely great!!!

I just came back to the game recently for one last run and it doesn't work. Most of the time it crashes when you save or won't even load a game. I'm gonna reinstall but i think if things don't improve then i am definately finished which is a shame because at 822 hours it's the most ive ever played a game through steam.

Ok edited to add, it's still just as bad. Takes 2 mins to load and then it got stuck on autosave and this is only at turn 50 or so. Thanks for all your efforts and while i think the game got better, the performance kept getting worse and now the hassle just takes all the fun out of it. I'm not biiter, i really enjoyed the game but it's time to end this one.

Sorry guys.

Since that's not a general problem (just an assertion on my part ;)) perhaps a mail to Stardock support with your system specification may help.

But you would not be the first one that is screwed by some hardware incompatibility with a game. I had the same issue with Port Royale (anyone even knows that?) a lot of years ago and weeks of mail traffic with support couldn't help me back then ...

It's not hardware. The game was fantastic on the same machine only eight months ago and said machine is very capable. It's programming that has let it down.

You sure about that? My game works fine, doesn't crash at all. You may have a good machine but it doesn't mean a thing. If it ran fine 8 months ago what has changed on your machine? Are your drivers old? Updated? What OS? As a software developer blaming the software when you don't know jack is a BS excuse.

Maybe it is the game maybe not. If you don't or won't consider contacting support then don't complain if it doesn't work. It would be one thing if a large number of users were having the same problem and Stardock refused to fix or acknowledge the issue but I haven't seen that on the forums.

Yeah, that's how it appears to me too.

My game works fine. No crashes since months! OK loading needs a couple of seconds but not more than 90. Its OK for me! (Current game is in turn 675)

Everything is up to date and nothing has changed, the reason I mention 8 months ago is because it was new. Also what I f I told you it was broken on the other machine too that also used to run like a dream?

Edited to add, I’m going to reinstall with antivirus off because I think it might be blocking some stuff

Best of luck, AV can be a real pain sometimes especially for developers... They don't like executable files that you compile but will completely miss a virus embedded in some random installer...

I remember a long while back that one of the Total War titles had an issue like this. In that case it was something that the game required that was removed from the driver. In this case there may be some change that the devs did that conflict with something on your computer. It happens, and is impossible to notice during development considering the limitless number of hardware and software choices out there. If that is the case then maybe 1% (or less) of all users may encounter the same issue as you.
