Feedback on Super Melee MP modes

Currently we have 2 modes. Ranken and Unranked. With ranked being scores and restricted to official ships only.

1) I really think we are missing unranked option with official ships only.

With current setup, what will happen is that hardcode SM players will play ranked, making it less accessible for beginners (exactly my experience with Starcraft, long time ago), while unranked will be hot mess with bunch of custom creations, unsutable for learning how to play official ships correctly.

2) Additionally, I really think it would be nice to have option for both players to be forced to have one of each official ships. Call it balanced fleets of something. Idea would be for each player to go through all available ships in combat. A true test of skill. And great feature for testing in my oppinions, making sure players do not play with just their favorite ships.

3) With that in mind please make sure that total ship cost for the fleet can buy all official ships at once (currently is the case, but may not be after more ships are added).

Hmmm, I agree with that. There should probably be casual, unranked, and ranked. Ranked and unranked being technically the same thing except you can't gain/lose rank.

We really need to be careful not to split the community up too much even if I agree with what you're saying here.

I almost think we should treat it as a filtering system like:

1. Find Match

Filters:

[ ] Allow Custom Ships

[ ] Ranked

Where players can pick those while searching and have the game update an estimated time to find a player based on those choices (i.e. you can change your choice aby time and it will update the estimate).

Sometimes the simple solution is the best.  Add a couple checkboxes as suggested and done.  Maybe consider a splitting Ranked into Ranked w/ Custom and Ranked base ships.  That should keep things from being split up too much.

1) Unranked (filters for custom or no)

2) Ranked (base ships only)

3) Ranked (Custom ships allowed)

Seems reasonable to me.

I can't imagine ranked with custom ships being a good idea, even with a separate ladder.  I just envision ridiculous min-maxxing with everyone choosing 10 duplicate "optimal" ships that will work its way through the meta.

I like 2 options: ranked and unranked.  Add a check box to unranked to allow or disallow custom ships.
