Spaceship crafting beta feedback

I just created by first space ship and here's various random thoughts that occurred to me through the process:

  • The sliders for scale and rotation were quite tricky to get to the exact number I wanted. The ability to type would be helpful.
  • Similarly an ability to click a piece, click clone and then click a new mount point to get one with the exact same values would be nice. So would a mirror button so if you wanted to have, e.g. a wing coming from either side of a central body you could do that automatically.
  • I wasn't keen on the way the outfit screen added additional parts. Especially since I went with an unusual design so the weapons/thrusters didn't fit visually. I'd much rather you just tagged specific parts and said this is the primary weapon etc.
  • When I tested the final ship I ended up flying backwards. It would be nice if we had some way of controlling which side is the front.

I like the crafting very much, much of my issues are the same as above but I will name them anyway.

  • Sliders are confusing but I got used to it, maybe add arrows next to each slider showing how the part will rotate or which way it will move.
  • I second the idea of a mirror and or flip button, the likes of Kerbal Space Program or Simple Planes.
  • I could not figure out how to put more than one thruster or engine on a ship, I was only allowed to place one thruster mount and one engine mount, not sure if it is intentional or a glitch?
  • Why not make the thrusters and engines part of the normal parts? Categorize everything under wings, hulls, cockpits etc? Maybe dont make everything available from the get go, start with basic parts and basic engines and accumulate points for melee wins to spend on unlocking better performance parts and visual add ons?
  • My final ship flew forward but there was no engine glow or trail, my weapon was firing in the wrong direction.
  • On the design screen I somehow managed to move WAY out of the ships view and had to click and drag and guess in what direction to go to finally find the ship again, a centre or focus button will help with that.
  • Balancing will be difficult but it would be nice to add a lot of engines and thrusters but then lose out on a secondary weapon or use less engines and gain a third weapon slot etc.

Overall I think its pretty good and can see myself and others spending hours just designing and building different ships, I feel its a good job thus far and cant wait to see what updates will enhance and change!

This is interesting. I have to try this soon. Not to compare apples to oranges but the Kerbal space program interface sounds like what you guys would want to see adapted.

Kerbal space program

That's what I was thinking, actually. KSP is my gold standard for spaceship making.
