[SMB] potential issue with running away

I've played only for a few minutes and I've already got myself into a situation where both ships had the same speed ("The Measured", standard edition) and I had no chance of catching up to my enemy as we were flying in a straight line, and also no weapon to damage him from that distance.

It reminded me of a similar problem in For Honor where some less skilled players had no decency to stand their ground and resorted to this frustrating (but effective) trick instead. I believe they later solved it by detecting the runners and giving them a countdown.

In my case, AI refused to understand the concept of human decency and, as soon as I chose to give it an advantage by slowing down, instantly resumed its attacks. I'm not sure this could be a big annoyance in SP but MP, especially ranked, should not allow this kind of tactics indefinitely.

What ship were you playing with?

This. This is why the original had wrap.

I was the Mowlings and the enemy AI Tywom kept running away and dropping turrets and I could not catch up.  Jeff was too slow to catch the Tywom which was annoying.

Unmodified "The Measured".

Yeah, we brought this up..a lot recently.  See the thread "solutions to screenwrap" for part of the discussion.

Yeah, I agree. There's little point moaning about it (since Brad has stated that the decision has been made) but losing screenwrap is a real shame IMO, and I'm frankly a little surprised at the assertion that most people found it too confusing/complicated. It's pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I grasped it easily enough in the SC1/SC2 days, and I was a lot younger then than most gamers who pick up SCO will be today.

But anyway, it's done.

I've been thinking about it for some time and I came to the conclusion screen wrap wouldn't help unless it was random and random does not belong in ranked.

I think one of the early SM alpha has something resembling random screenwrap.

It was awful. Like some sort of teleporter after hitting arena borders. Nothing like an actual SC1/SC2 screenwrap that works nicely.

I just hope that such implementation was not the one used to decide internally that screenwrap is bad, since did not feel in any way as SC1/SC2 screenwrap.

The previous screen wrap didn't wrap around to the far side of the battlefield like in SC2.  If you hit the edge your ship was teleported to a seemingly random position behind the enemy ship in the smallest zoom range.  It felt pretty bad.  Even worse than the current tethering mechanic.
