Thoughts on 2.5
What do we all think of the new patch?
Here's me personally:
- I like the new vision and radar range.
- The new juggernauts are cool enough, personally not a fan of there being 4 unit tiers but hay ho.
- The nest is still a domination machine in the AI's hands, pulling opponents back into friendly defences by reversing, permanently locking units that prefer frigates before juggernauts into a battle they will never win and so on.
- The eye jug is wicked strong, even soloing entire defensive lines by it's self but is countered by it's own jammy AI that gets it stuck doing nothing, which was fortunate as the PHC have no proper anti-armour aircraft.
- The agamemnon jug is cool looking with it's rapid fire guns but bringing one out first is a death sentence if the enemy decided that their first jug was going to be an eye or leonidas, it's a wierd gambit with all the dreads where if you don't build and anti-dread and the enemy does then you just wasted your money.
- The leonidas jug is still ok, ish, but just like the eye it gets stuck doing nothing with an attack move while a enemy nest rips it apart.
- End game now feels like a dread fest for the most part as with the eye, nest and agamemnon every other unit type just get's blown away in less then a second. PHC air is very unsuitable for killing dreads but I'd wager then substrate air can do fine. I'm personally not a fan of the 4 unit tiers and the possible 5th coming up.
- PHC AI is still hot garbage and frequently just stops playing and doesn't respond, the substrate AI is also fairly bad but never get's stuck in the same way. Both sides frequently get stuck with massive armies next to their nexus not doing anything.
- Army AI is still wierd, attacking moving with a dread in the army will have the dread fight the enemy, along with 20% of the army while the rest sit back not assisting in any way, watching the rest die
The game is still fun but it is a little blarg at times when the jugs show up and the AI bugs out.
