Playable Alpha For Founders

Playable Alpha For Founders

Hello, fellow Star Control colleagues.

I'll never forget playing SC1 and SC2 back in the day.  Great times, I'm truly grateful that Stardock has taken up the burden of continuing the story, in their own way, and sharing it with new fans.  Even my kids love SC2, but I'm looking forward to sharing a more modern take on concept with them.

Anyway, when I paid to be a Founder, it sort of seemed to me that by doing so I'd have access to some sort of Alpha.  I figured it would be Starbound-esque in the 'pay-to-play prior to the official release' fashion.  I know it's early (and now I know that the plan is for September of 2018), but I was hoping for at least something.  Is it something that I'm missing, or do only a select few testers get the current build?  Please forgive me if I'm missing something, I'm not quite the gamer anymore that I once was.

I'm happy to support the game, but I probably wouldn't have paid $100 for it just to get a few PDFs, if I had known better.  Take it easy on my, I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just asking.  I spent dozens if not hundreds of hours exploring the stars, looking for Rainbow worlds back in the day.  I can be patient, I was just wondering if I was missing something.

A private subreddit is probably the only way I'd keep really engaged.  I'm just not going to be logging in to a 90's style forum or an IRC channel or a Discord server on a daily basis.

Really wish I could figure this out. I paid for the Founders Edition, but have to verify through Discord. I'm on Discord but not sure what I am supposed to do exactly. Just wish they would give a direct download link if their is a playable client out.

There isn't yet.

A very small group of founders have the alpha in order to do very initial testing (like, there are about 15 of us). If you want to have a chance of doing that, you need to sign up at the discord and be present there - people who post more and engage in discussion and show that they will provide feedback have a better chance of being picked and given the early alpha.

To verify on discord, just grab a link to your forum profile (which you can get by clicking on the profile link at the top of the page when you're on the forum) and post it in the public\verification channel on discord.

However, *all* founders will be getting the SM beta soon anyway - I believe the plan is next month so it will be at the 25th anniversary of SC2, so you wont have long to wait either way.

Everyone who joined the Founder's program should start getting Steam keys around the 16th.  But you didn't hear that from me. ;)

Look at this guy posting like he has inside information.

Beware he's a massive conspiracy theorist :)

People pay zero attention and don't engage, then bitch about not being involved.

A really old commenting, but let's do a quiz, which of these is bitching?
1) "Great times, I'm truly grateful that Stardock has taken up the burden of continuing the story"
2) "I can be patient, I was just wondering if I was missing something"
3) "Take it easy on my, I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just asking"
4) "People pay zero attention and don't engage, then bitch about not being involved. "

I think you know the answer, no need for replies.

Glad I went back to read this. So soon now for everyone :)

For what it's worth, I just purchased the founder pack tonight - after having considered it for a long time - and found the directions pretty straightforward to get to the Discord. For those worried about Discord being cumbersome, it's not; it's intuitive and resource-light.

Now I just need the gatekeeper to verify me!

This date has been moved to the 19th to address some feedback.

I would like to participate as well unfortunately I am based out of Shanghai and even with a VPN Discord does not work for me. There is a problem connecting to chat servers from Chinese IPs. Probably due to the Great Firewall. Really makes me sad, as I love this franchise, and have been here since the beginning of it all. Hopefully future interactions between founders and Stardock will not be bottlenecked through the discord app.

The discord is merely one aspect of the community and as has been stated here, far from a requirement - So long as you can access these forums you're pretty much up to date. Also as has been stated, something good might be coming Soon... so hang in there!
