Looking for Opinions on a New Skin Idea

Comments appreciated...

Thinking of doing a somewhat "Modern" skin here. As an example this is one I was commissioned to do several years ago called Flaty. It was never released and won't ever be, but I was thinking of doing a somewhat modern flat skin for public release. Do you think I should do one or not? I would really appreciate your comments. :)

I like that.

Do see requests for that type of thing from time to time.  I like the grey, but it might be good to do it in a color that would color-shift well for a little more flexibility - not a lot of "Flats" around (and probably won't be) :)  .

I’m generally not fond of the flat trend, but these themes are really popular. You see them for Windows on Deviantart and for Linux too. I was thinking the other day that it’s strange there aren’t more flat skins on Wincustomize.

If you did this skin several years ago then you were ahead of the curve. This one looks really good. I definitely think you should make something similar, because this is a type of skin that is missing from Wincustomize (as far as I can tell).

It looks great as is and those who like a little bit of transparency can play with the settings in WindowBlinds. Go for it!

This looks cleaner than the original MS Windows 8/10 themes.

Great idea!

Yes. How about something that you could colorize. That way your not stuck with one color. I do like the blue on the mouse over in the start menu.

I think anotherside summed it up.

I really like those icons too.

It looks good. Colors match nicely but flat...I'm kinda spoiled. I like the depth and substance of WB's

I thought that skin looked familiar. Tom I don't know who you commissioned the skin to, but 3 different people on DeviantArt have this up for download.

Moze Def.  I'm getting accustomed to the flat Win10 look, but it's color limitations are annoying, so a skin such as that which could be colorized would definitely interest me.

Just an aside - I've noticed a tendency in many apps which have adopted the 'flat' style to have clickable elements that almost disappear into the background when in the inactive or 'not checked/not selected' state, in particular check boxes.  Would avoid that.

So, what are you waiting for?:D

Yes, I know that. I had to get permission from the original author (sg2142) (Tornado) to port it to Windowblinds for the person who commissioned it. It is not available for Windowblinds anywhere that I am aware of.

I don't like flat skins, but some do. It's worth doing, IMHO.

Looks like I will be considering it ... no guarantees though. :)

Hi Lightstar,

Nice looking WB. Would certainly use it.

My only suggestion would be position of the window buttons (min, max, close). Maybe slightly lower and further to the right. Maybe more Mac-like in terms of relative position with the window frame. But that's just my opinion.

Also, a completely black and white version would be cool as well (not just desaturated). Or maybe another single or dual color version?

Regardless, awesome job as usual! :)

Yep, I agree on the titlebar buttons, but that is what the person at the time wanted, to the pixel!

Sorry AbKu, it cannot be released, but i am working on a new flat design called Moderna that will have 5 different colored sub-styles.

Here are some colors I have chosen, let me know what you think are the best. :)

I prefer less saturated colors - easier on the eyes B)

I think this skin has really nice colors (the colors that can be seen on the taskbar)

But it's just an opinion - there is no right or wrong  :)

Do you mean pastel colors?

Provided they can be colorized to taste, they are all fine, Tom.  Thx for taking the project on.

Do you mean pastel colors?

Yes and no. From Wikipedia:

"Pastels or pastel colors are the family of colors which, when described in the HSV color space, have high value and low to intermediate saturation"

When Wikipedia writes "high value" I guess they mean "high brightness". I don't necessarily want a bright skin. I was more concerned about the color saturation ("the amount of color in the color" for lack of a better expression).

I don't mind pastel colors, but I didn't want to use that word, because then people assume bright colors. I just wanted less saturated colors. :)

That being said I don't think I'm going to use a flat skin anyway. The reason I left a comment is because those colors reminded me of MS Metro colors which I also found too saturated. So it was my anger against saturated colors that came out... :-"  ;P  ;)

Well you can get to the grey pretty easily from the other 4 and not visa-versa, so I'd have to rule out the grey.

I had to test drive the gold out of curiosity and it does recolor great (but you already knew that ;)  ).  It does run a little brighter than the rest and won't push quite as dark as they will if that matters, it looks good.

Maybe whichever color you'd prefer to work with.

One other thing did occur to me while I was poking at this: You can add blur in WBConfig if it's not in the skin, but you can't take it out if it's in the skin. ;)

And I think I may have accidentally copied the MS Win10 style by filling a rectangle with a solid color and calling it a taskbar. ;P
