Jagged knife needs a comeback.

I actually miss the jagged knife. There were two complaints. First they were here because of mega events. A mega event was meant to change the game dramatically where the player would have a challenge to rebuild. The first, and least supported was that it was too strong. There were arguments against that that it wasn't even the hardest to counter. The second was that the Jagged knife didn't know how to run it's planets where it didn't go into debt, so it couldn't build anything. The last point needs to be modified where it can manage it's empire.

Now if it needs to it needs to be able to tear non wonder buildings down to build it right. It needs to identify what buildings are the best for each type. They also need to build all there player achievements, so there is a award for this.

Now I would like to add it would be nice if numbers are generated that way, but if you use class zero planets instead. Possibly giving the some resources with some cash to start out with, or also include starbases into the mix.

Now the other opponents need to be aware of this especially if they lost planets trying to take the best planets first.

This needs to be a pregame option, or a Dlc that you could turn on, and off.

I think Crusade broke the Mega Events....  I've not seen the Peacekeepers, or SpaceMonsters, or really any of the really good ones since Crusade came out

I had both of these events in one Crusade game so they are still working.

Yea  I have not seen any mega's either. I F***king hated Jagged knife. If the 'gamebreaker' events would wait until a predetermined turn or tech trigger then fine but to get Jagged or peace keepers 15 turns into a new game is pretty tough.

I only seen the jagged knife when i had at least 18 colonies after the event, but i think if they only had used the class zero planets that would solve that problem. I do agree there should be a turn limit before this would be able to spawn if fixed.

Personally I would like to see some more game impacting mega events. I actually feel GalcCiv II Ultimate was better in this department in terms of sometimes having mega events that really changed the game. Might be a good idea to make them come with a flag so that players can decide if they want to have such 'big events' in their games or not. When I say big events I'm thinking stuff like more effective space monsters...maybe whole new races from beyond or a race that comes into existence by stealing two planets off each player and the like. I had some very interesting games in Gal Civ II with events like that and with new and better AI we have in Gal Civ III I think we could get even more interesting events.

On a similiartopic when are we getting the minors back as races that actually do something? I always liked them and just wished they actually tried to play as well (even if they have no real chance).

I agree about more mega events. That is probably why I miss the Jagged so much. Some would need fixing though like the Jagged kniufe.

About minors your going to have to change brads mind. He says they are a hold over when we didn't have the resources to have 100 majors.

This would make a nice Dlc that the founder elite could uninstall if they didn't like, or others not buy if they didn't want. It would make a better pregame option though.

Hate the Jagged Knife.  Just hate it.  If I never see it again, I will still think it happens too often.  That event either triggers a reload or a rage quit, every time.

We hates it , my precious, we really do.

My idea would give you a way to opt out. I am talking about fixing it before we bring it back.

I have yet to get a mega event that turns the game on its head.   Just today I got an ideology event that gave Democracy +9, which could have been game-changing if I hadn't been 2 turns away from a culture victory.

IMHO, buffing Dread Lords event is what you probably want if you want a new faction to pop up out of dead planets.   Jagged Knife IMHO should splinter off from the biggest empire, after it looks like they're a runaway (including if that runaway is you).   And it should be an Ideology event:   Malevolent is very straightforward--immediately declare war on the rebels.   Pragmatic is to try and assimilate them through influential means.  Benevolent is allow for peaceful coexistence through diplomacy.    The ideology points and bonuses lessen the badness of the event (while still shifting the game quite a bit).

I also never liked the Jagged Knife, but mainly because it was poorly implemented.  If it was game-changing, yet somehow not terrifying early on, I'd be willing to see it again.

I wouldn't mind them if the mechanic for them appearing was different, actually, the name would probably be the only thing intact, but this is what I think:

If a planet's approval hits 30% or lower, the chance exists a new minor faction might take over, based on what ideology the player the player isn't using (if you go for all trees it will be completely random). Jagged Knife is the "malevolent" one, while the other two represents Benelovent and Pragmatic. It will start off hostile but can be reasoned with eventually. This would allow the game to feel more alive, as I have never been a fan of the idea of empires being consumed and eventually there is only one giant immovable empire that nobody can question. With time, empires grow and collapse, and I want that represent in game mechanics like this.
