Wait...have I been here before?

or Keeping Track of the Universe

Hello nice Dev people! I have a small, nay tiny even, question for you that I hope you can answer. With something like 4000 locations or more that will be in this particular universe/galaxy, will there be a way to track which planets and systems you have visited? You see, I'm afraid I get lost in the grocery store so trying to keep track of where I'll be warping around the galaxy is going to be problematic for my limited hairless ape-like brain to process. An in-game system that can put a nice, friendly little green check mark or some other appealing icon next to all the locations I've been to would sure be appreciated. Please help me to not be hopelessly lost on my upcoming journey through the stars...and beyond. Thank you most sincerely!

I agree with bkee.  To expand on this idea, how about having an option of marking any systems that we've been to but would like to return to as well?  There could be any number of reasons for this (e.g. minerals to mine but didn't have the cargo space, enemies orbiting planet but too weak to engage them at the moment, etc.)

I noted in the video posted by Brad that there was the 'Captain's Log' button down in the bottom right. I'm hoping that is where all our notes on goodies, star systems, game notes, etc can get stashed.

It will be interesting to see what form it takes though. As a bit more of an old school gamer I'd love to see it with minimum 'auto-fill' of important games notes and maybe a little bit more free form.

We were talking about this a year ago, or was it the year before that? I dunno.

Some of us said we wanted to be able to annotate a star map; others said they'd rather keep handwritten notes. Pfft... handwritten notes.

i would vote aye on resource gathering progress, for all the rest will have to see how it feels in the game... i'm worried from ME:A experience that it'll become a huge todo list, and the game might become too much busywork as a result...

I vote for annotating the star map

...and the Star Map notes are only visible when you open the Captain's Log.

I agree the captains log should show the pins you have dropped, and there should be a way to annotate the log with special locations. So I could write in the log "found an awesome planet with a bunch of resources, go back and get them later" and click on the planet in the starmap and it would put the coordinates in the log for me. Then later when I read that entry, I can click on the coordinates and a pin would drop onto the starmap to remind me of where the planet was.
