I enjoy reading articles in TechRepublic...I found this one very informative as to possible borking with the Creator Update.

Mind you, I know folks who opted for early update and it has gone just fine for them, without problems at all.

 

On the other hand, MS's big updates have a penchant for problems, so you might wish to wait with this one to see reports of problems before implementing the update.

I updated one of my laptops to 15063.11 as a test drive and didn't have any problems.  I don't see how this update is any different than for instance the Anniversary update in terms of issues and risks.  It's best if early adopters know what they're doing and those who really don't want hassles to wait, but of course it doesn't seem to work out that way :-)

The article is mostly correct that the larger the update, the chances for errors increase (they still can and have screwed up small updates, too).

There are people who like having the ability/choice to put off updating (accepting any risk), to allow them to see if there are problems and with which other software/drivers they have...which to me, seems perfectly acceptable in light of MS's record with large updates. To each his own.

Being a Windows Home user, I might be forced to update when it is pushed by Microsoft.

Or Win10 Home people can follow similar instructions on getting Group User Editor installed and make the appropriate settings. I am looking into this atm. I've seen these instructions in various reputable sites. Just being certain I get the correct files to install. Also, having a valid GUE on Win10 Home would be a befit aside from this issue.

update: Futzing around, I now have a valid gpedit.msc install and running. I have configured Automatic Updates to notify only. I will decide what and when now, which is as how I like it.

I use DoNotSpy10, I found it on Major Geeks IIRC. It allows me to defer upgrades and disable automatic updates through Group Policy, plus many, many more handy settings.

Once you have gpedit.msc properly installed (if it is not already), Run WindowsKey + R and execute gpedit.msc


 



..according to various sites.

This is not a supported option by any means. It might not even work on Windows 10, but from what I have read, it does. I will let people know if it does not.

15063.11 here. Not had much chance to explore yet. Defender interface is much improved. Night light is great - much better for the eyes late at night. Not explored 3D paint yet.

Agreed, the new control panel for Security/Windows Defender is a big improvement.  I'm glad to see them adding the Night Light feature; nice when a feature is included in the OS, but F.lux is more advanced for those who don't mind running another third party app.
