WB 10 Start Menu messed up.

I am not sure what happened, but I think there might have been an update to windows that has messed up my Start Menu while using WindowBlinds and/or Start10.

I am missing my shut down buttons and the program lists on the left and right hand side are all out of place. I've tried several skins and the issue presists with all of them.  Reboots and unloading / relaunching WB did not corrent the error.

I would suggest you post the version of Windowblinds you are using. I'm using 10.58 and have no problems with anything. There is a 10.59 available now but I haven't installed it yet.

The Start10 latest version is 1.53.

I was running the latest version of both (no updates available via the in software update tools). I have just uninstalled all Stardock software from my system for the time being as it was making my system unusable. I will try it again at a later date.

I am not blaming Stardock software for my problems. I believe it's Microsoft pushing out incompatible updates. As it's the main OS I use, I need it to work..  I feel my days as a Windows user is coming to an end. I run various spins of Fedora on other systems, and may need to sidegrade to Linux here as well. I am an unhappy Windows 10 user.

You are aware that you have to download beta versions from the store. The programs won't update those. The latest betas fix many things. So if you don't use them I suggest you do.

As far as Microsoft updates I have no problems. I get their updates all the time but I do not install any Insider updates. Those are what can cause problems for many from what I have read here.

Don't know if I'm lucky or just do the correct thing all the time. I get no system slow downs or crashes as some say they do.

I feel your pain... OSes and software used to be my main hobby. A way to relax, but also to learn and discover new things. I never watch TV or play games, I don't have the patience.

Windows 10 was never my cup of tea. Unfortunately most Linux distros are junk these days. I'm using an older version of Linux right now and there is no way I can upgrade to something newer without losing something: customization, stability, performance or ease of use. Some modern Linux distros can't even hold a stable Ethernet connection!

In that light Windows 10 is good, because no problem with Ethernet. Losing Ethernet connection just makes me furious, because that should never happen unless it's the fault of the ISP.

So I can't recommend Linux to anyone these days, unless you go with a smaller distro and make it your hobby. I was thinking about what to give my dad after Windows 7 bites the dust. I think Windows 7 was the best OS ever made, but for a fresh install Windows 7 feels a bit old. After consideration I came to the conclusion that Windows 10 with some form of "managed updates" is the best choice.

Heck, the way the OS landscape currently looks I might transition to Windows 10 myself when my current Windows 7 and Linux OSes are out of support.

If Fedora works for you, then great. I have zero trust in Red Hat, they built desktop Linux and then destroyed it and took everyone with them in the fall by pushing their new bs tech everywhere. Unless you go with a smaller distro and select your own components I don't think you can have Linux stability anymore.

I even tried FreeBSD and it gave me the "Commodore Amiga" vibe which was great. It may offer better stability but performance is worse and it's too far out in the technological periphery for serious desktop usage.

Then there is the Mac, but I have never ventured that far... giving money to Apple just feels wrong. ;P

PS I can recommend dual-booting. If Windows annoys you, boot into Linux. If Linux annoys you, boot into Windows. I have solved Linux problems from Windows and Windows problems from Linux. At this time I don't think you can find a sane OS.

That's an oxymoron...right...a sane OS.  :P

I performed a clean install and it appears to be working again. Something got futzed up someplace. I'll keep a close eye on things for a bit to be sure.

Open settings then click on updates and security. In that window click on update history. It will tell you what updates were installed and when. That way you'll know if an update actually caused the glitch. As for the SD apps, are you keeping the installer packages for backups? You should do this for every program you run. This way re-installing them is less of a hassle. You don't have to go looking for them to download again.

I kept the Object Desktop Manager installed.

I just checked my update history. It wasn't an update from Microsoft. I believe now that some components of SD software being sandboxed / blocked by my anti-virus.  I have corrected it.
