Follow-up on potent strategies from Season 1

It has been quite some time for me since I played Ashes. I lost interest after the Escalation expansion came out and I'm very happy that the devs are making an attempt to reunite communities. I'm in for that. Great Job! Let's read through some Ashes posts, do some testing and dive right back into it.

As I'm someone who came from Season 1, I'm pretty sure a lot has changed in the game. However, when scrolling through the forum, I still see the same QQ-crying  as from Season 1:

- Substrate able to air rush the enemy so as an opponent you have to guess or simply blindly build air defense
This will either set you far behind because there is no air rush to be seen or will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth at the start of the game.

- PHC opener: 2 cap
1. Engineer: Build Extractors -> Factory (-> Sky Factory if so desired) -> Armory (boosting Factory and Armory for some time to get units out more quickly)
2. Engineer: Build Extractors -> Build Base Extractors -> Orbital Fabricator -> Quantum Relay
This provided me with a nice start to cap points in 2 directions with Orbitals and a medic on one side and my main army on the other and could easily outproduce and outcap players until reaching Legendary.

So how viable are these strategies to this date and how do you guys open your games now, if mine is (and most likely will be) obsolete?

Seems like a solid opener for low to mid level play, higher play, you're gonna need to mix in some statics and more armories(maybe a nother factory to get more medics or skip brutes/archers if just using one) although all strategies depend on map.

As far as SS going early air, the punisher is a little op, it's too cheap radio wise compared to hades, and hades is largely ineffective price wise, it costs too much radio and isn't very good in it's role. It's highly ineffective, largely due to inaccuracies hitting move targets. I think if we swapped the radio costs on them they'd be fine.

As far as dominator rush, the fury is just as easy to get out, and it costs less radio, dominators cost more radio than punishers, which doesn't make very much sense to me. But it's easy to counter with constables or furies. Early scouting is currently not really an option, so just always plan for an early fury/dominator. Personally I'd recommend just always pumping out a fury or dominator. Sky cleansers are largely useless unless you build enough of them, the other guy can just go around them. Constables do a good job stopping fury/dominator/hades but suck against punisher, so be sure to upgrade them asap if you suspect a punisher.

Thank you for your tips. It's just an opening. Of course these will not be the only buildings I will be building. It's just about the opening and a particular QQ topic that I saw throughout the forum and other sources.

I'll give Ashes another shot. Loved the SC like short game times but with less micro and APM spam.

I personally love the game, and yes it is very chill compared to some other RTS's. I do a stream nightly, you should come by sometime if you have more questions or want to play a casual game: https://twitch.tv/priestxes

There is still a lot to QQ about but stardock is taking steps to improve, not fast enough for some, but they are. :)
