What OSes will StarControl Origins Run on?

Quick question which I'm interested in, What OSes will StarControl Origins Run on?

Not sure if it's already answered somewhere else, I'm a lazy son of a druuge and I haven't read all the FAQs yet.

Don't forget that Brad loved OS/2.

DOS "Disk Operating System" 6.22 was what the original Star Control ran on really well.

OS/2 is well basically the IBM equivalent to Windows 95 which would run amazingly well if you knew what you were doing.  Sadly it never really made it far.

If the game is built upon DirectX 11, expect the game to require Windows 7 or Above

If the game is built upon DirectX 12, expect the game to require Windows 10 or above.

By the time Star Con Origins is released they will have the Vulkan version of the Nitrous engine ready. So it should run on Windows 7+, with potential for a Linux port.

I'm not upgrading to Windows 10 to play this game, Stardock. I'm on 7 until the end of times or somebody buys me 10 some software dev forces me to.

Nitrous runs on Directx 11 and higher iirc.  Which means it will only KIND OF run on windows 7. 11.1 is where Win 7 support got a little fuzzy, and you'll get better performance from Win 8.1 or 10.

Sorry, brotato.

You can still do a free upgrade to Windows 10. They don't advertise it anymore but I have done it on over a dozen computers since the end of the free upgrade program.

^ Why do I need to upgrade? I do not have any problems running any soft ATM. Every consecutive Windows version is slower, fatter, clunkier and more intrusive. I'm blocking all windows 10 updates and bloatware currently. M$ can suck it.

All I know is Nitrous = DirectX 11. My Win7 = DirectX 11. SCO should run on my machine.

P.S. Have you asked yourself why 10 is free?.. Exactly.

They were Micro$oft under Ballmer. Now, they are Microsoft, the Linux Foundation Platinum Member.

I made the switch at work and actually prefer Win10 to Win7. I got rid of the Start Menu (Classic Shell), got rid of the intrusive telemetry (Spybot Anti-Beacon), fixed some nagging minor issues (WinAero Tweaker), and enabled the awesome Windows Subsystem for Linux (Aka: Bash on Win10). I don't have a problem with it.

I know you aren't a programmer, though, so the WSL stuff flies right over you... But it is so freaking cool to be able to develop in a Bash shell without any 3rd party installs (Cygwin/MinGW).

One thing I saw that I like already is how Win10 handles major updates. Rather than bloat your Windows directory, it will spawn a whole separate Windows directory and rename the original one "Windows (Old)". My old Win7 folder was over 60GB, and I couldn't reduce the size despite numerous attempts. (And I am no novice user.)

^ Does programming in Rhino Script and Visual Basic count as programming?.. If not, then I'm just a script writer.

Actually, it depends on which version of Directx 11 you have. Like I said, with 11.1 and on, support is fuzzy and they can't guarantee a stable experience on Windows 7.

dxdiag says DirectX 11

Have you checked all the vault updates?

I actually asked it for people on the uqm.stack.nl board :). Since some of them are linux junkies they wanted to know if they could play this new gem.

So when I got only bullshit answers I had to disappoint my friends ;).

About the vault: I think I have them all downloaded, unless there is something for november already?

MS-DOS 6.22 mostly.

Only if you use EMM386 to provide enough expanded memory for the speech pack and over 600K conventional memory.

I really want to see a Mac client. While we have wimpy GPUs in our machines, once you go UNIX/Linux-based, you can't go back to Windows.
