SNEAK PREVIEW: First Gameplay trailer!

SNEAK PREVIEW: First Gameplay trailer!

Greetings!

Last month I showed you an animatic we were using to help guide the development team on the player experience we were going for.

This month, we have put together our first gameplay trailer for the game designed to allow the public to know what Star Control: Origins is about.

It's in the Founder's Vault now.  We would love to hear your thoughts, particularly on the music and sound (other than the end logo screen, we wanted to make sure we were using music you'd hear in game).

The goal is for people to get to see what the new Star Control: Origins will be like to play versus, say, a story-driven trailer like we previously have shown.  We are hopeful that fans will prefer to see what gameplay will be like versus a pre-renderd cut-scene.

The one thing I have mixed feelings about are the shadows:

We have them in here but there is the possibility they could get cut in order to make our hardware requirement objective (they're not fully developed at this stage so we will know within the next few months whether we can do this). Not sure how many people will care about this or not.  That isn't to say we won't have shadows, just not sure about this fidelity.

Sorry for bumping this, but I must say that public version this trailer is what made me become Founder, and actually get hyped for new Star Control game.

So it hit exactly as it should. At least for me. So good work Stardock!

And hyperspace remix is awesome. And is now a public download, not only in the Vault. Thus, looking into importing it in Ur-Quan Masters for my personal playthrough.

I can already see... Bwaaahaaa... It's a downgrade. Bad developers. Bwaaahaaa...

Am I the only one who is unable to see the new Gameplay Trailer? Or am I just missing the obvious about where it is?

Ah, I thought it was something new, well, I have seen that and am quite excited from what I see. Although the current landscape does look a little sparse, though that could very well be due to the early stage this demonstration is in.

I don't like shadows, baked shadows are usually part of objects so there is no point to having soft shadows, extreme shadows or shadow kings that chase your doodle.

Things I would like to see:

- I hope they add a Shakespearean alien character designed to bore you to death while sneaking off with your treasure trove.

- Flying Spaghetti Monster yes this should be a race :)

- Super weapons that do silly things like zapping your enemies lucky charms, too much?!

- Heat seeking missiles with lazy eye 10% chance to hit yourself.

- Slaves that you can use to mine for your civ, barter, trade, exploit.

- Build Death Stars!!

- Multiple galactic currencies for trades.

- Language translators that are physical diplomats that you send, depending on their standing a race might like them or kill them.

- Stellar VOIP

- Ship AI that initially sucks then as you upgrade becomes a personal butler or an ahole.

- Selectable UI colors.

- Hackable satellites which you can use to spy on your foes and neighbors.

- Drones, Battleships, Destroyers, Capital Ships, Slavery Ships, Trade Ships, OnStar Just kidding.

- Ability to lease your farm lands, colonies, sectors.

- Dyson Spheres.

- Use of weather control weapons.

- Perks for units/level ranks etc..

- Flip a coin to make life or death decisions.

- Launch space garbage into your sun or at your foes.

- Gas planets, Ring planets, Planetary bodies, mining for rare metals/minerals, Goldilocks worlds.

- Space stations that can be endlessly upgraded to the point where your pockets can go bankrupt.

- Space dust and debree that tricks navigation, space tunnels, worm holes, anomalies.

- Galactic bargain store, SeriusXM Radio, used parts dealers, gas stations, Spaceballs etc..

What about an atmosphere? The planets look to cartoonish. I'd try to make them look more like an actual planet on the exterior. The lander flies through the atmosphere and then lands.

It;s 2017 we have the technology. Like like planets like the game Stellaris.

This game is Sci-fi and Fantasy, it was never 100% realistic, it's always been a bit cartoony and that's how we like it! =) the planets looks fine! (my opinion) i just think some are too small

i too think what planet must be larger, for now its looks like a small ball... and about mineral harvest... i'm even in far 1992 think what it's some kind a too arcade... i really much like StarFlight system when you stop and begin harvest it from the underground maybe make somethinglike this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8UxuVIG6T4 (at 20-th minute)

I actually hate the planets and the candy resources, but it's not a battle I'm going to win.  I'll just avoid that part of the game as much as possible.
