Galactic Civilizations III v1.83 (opt-in 10/13)

Hello,

We have taken your suggestions for new keyboard shortcuts to improve the user experience.  We've also addressed stuck turns, missing sounds, and some gameplay issues.  Read below for details.  

To enable the patch, please do the following:

  • Select Galactic Civilization III in your Steam Library list
  • Right-click and select Properties
  • Select the BETAS tab
  • From the dropdown, select opt-in and click Close (if you don't see this option, restart Steam)
  • Steam should pull down the changed files; if you ever want to go back, do the same as above but select default

Please note: The opt-in is an early preview of the next update and you might experience bugs or other issues. We encourage players who try the opt-in to report any issues to the support forum or via support ticket so we can address them.

New hotkeys

Shipyards

  • Arrow left / right          Next / previous Shipyards
  • Shift left/right             Next / previous IDLE Shipyard
  • R                             Rush buy
  • DELETE                      Cancel building selected Ship

Starbases

  • Arrow left / right         Next/ previous Starbase
  • Shift left/right            Next/ previous Starbase that has an available module

 

Ship designer

  • Spacebar    Hotkey to toggle the visual display of anchor points on and off.  

Planet Screen

 

  • Arrow left / right          Next / previous colony
  • Shift left/right             Next / previous IDLE colony
  • R                              Rush improvement
  • U                              Upgrade selected Improvement
  • DELETE                      Destroy selected Improvement
  • DELETE                      Cancel building selected Improvement.

Strategic Map

  • C          Center map on the selected object
  • Ctl+S    Save game.  
  • R          Rush buy on the selected Ship or Improvement
  • U          Upgrade the selected Ship
  • DELETE  Decommission the selected Ship or Fleet

 

Change Log

Gameplay

  • Planets with the manufacturing slider set to 100% Military" will no longer be considered idle.   
  • Stationed ships now are properly having their maintenance cost reduced by 50%
  • Manufacturing points now being properly updated after reordering shipyard queue
  • If AI is significantly stronger than you, it will no longer accept bad peace treaty offers from you.  

MP

  • Jumping through a wormhole will no longer cause a desync
  • The AI can no longer decommission ships during battles.  This would cause lots of weird issues, including desyncs and crashes in MP.    
  • Battle preview window no longer causes a desync.  

UI

  • Updated appearance of keyboard input window.
  • Added new keyboard shortcuts suggested by our fans.
  • Command Window: Added cost and turn information for upgrading ships.
  • Metaverse button is now disabled if there's no internet connection

Sound

  • Ship sounds will no longer disappear in the middle of the turn.
  • Added new ship sounds
  • Shipyards are no longer missing ambient sounds
  • Fixed a problem where the "turn" button sound didn't play after a battle.  

Bugs

  • Starting the Altarian Prophecy DLC Triggers no longers For Arcea Campaign
  • Fixed typos
  • Altarian Prophecy:  One of the mission rewards was not properly giving the ideology bonus
  • Added a sanity check that makes sure we add in a valid waypoint in for our travel to prevent a stuck turn.
  • Fixed a problem where a destination tile was invalid when loading a save game.  
  • If more than one freighters are completed on the same turn, the popup dialog for the second one was sometimes getting lost, causing a stuck turn.  This same fix will unstick save games with this issue.

Ship designer

    • Spacebar    Hotkey to toggle the visual display of anchor points on and off.  

I had redefined the space bar in the ship designer as an easier "delete" button since I always misplace things.  I will have to be careful about things. ;)

^^^ I am sorry Admiral, but Stardock forgot to tell you that the Yor have been re-purposed as Kuerig's and now are only serving coffee at various Star bases throughout the galaxy. See your nearest Iridium salesman to get your hands on the new Korig hot beverage dispenser!

The "decommission" function has disappeared from the "command" list for some ships. I just saw it for two ships I got from anomalies, a "defender" and a "gunboat". The list looks like it has room for the function at the top of the list, but it is not displayed. Since it appears at the bottom of the list for ships I designed, perhaps it is not displayed because the list is being shifted downward by a blank entry for the first item.

 

The function still appears in the "details" panel for the selected ship.

 

And now, a couple of turns later (without a restart) I got a core ship (a Battle Axe this time) from an anomaly and the ship's command list displayed correctly.

I suffered a stuck turn with 1.83 Beta-Otp In. At turn 46, I reloaded from a Autosave which took me back to turn 41, played my turns again and got a stuck turn on turn 45, I had saved the game manual at turn 44 so I reloaded this auto save to save it on turn 45 and post it here. After loading this auto save I have been able to contiune past turn 46 (on 47 atm).

Yup Both :), I got it to continue btw, reloaded a save 3 turns back, on turn 210 atm.

OK.  We loaded the save and were not able to repro the problem.  Howeer, we've updated the opt-in with a stuck turn fix for surrendering AIs.

I had missed a couple files to update my mod to 1.83 which I did last night, played a game this morning for 140 turns, no stuck issues. Probably my own fault not checking everything that was updated properly. i play with surrenderign off btw.

Why do I have to finish build to save game. Why can't the hotkey just save.

Good work, stardock!

The new hotkeys for finding idle shipyards and planets are nice. However I think they should be improved:

1. Also add a clickable mouse control for that. There ist already the "<" and ">" you can click for finding the last/next. Why not add "<<" and ">>" for mouse users to go to the last/next idle shipyard/colony.

2. If you navigate through the shipyards or planets by the arrow keys and than leave the colony/shipyard, the map should center on that object. Currently the map stays at the object from the start.
