Need More Content

Stardock, I think we need more content updates, to create meaningful interaction between us and you. As the Internet is wont to do - Almost every thread has now degenerated into a flamewar between the members of this forum, and it's really getting upsetting to a lot of people!

I think there's only one solution to this: more regular content updates to sate our bloodlust for Star Control!!!!

Maybe, just MAYBE we could get an update MID-MONTH as well, even if they're both smaller?? That way we could totally spend our time critiquing you guys and offering helpful and constructive criticism...... instead of just bickering amongst ourselves!

See... the first 2 weeks of the month go by pretty well each month! We have lots of things to say and the conversation is fun and diverse! But after that, things go sideways and everyone is arguing on here about who's right about NMS, how we should participate in the Founders' Program, and who's the best critic! It's practically unbearable. We all want to be heard, and we all want an outlet. It's the undying need of every hunam. But stick a bunch of people from various backgrounds in a room, and they'll eventually start picking each other apart, unless their energies are directed in a more constructive way!

So come on, Stardock! Let's hear more! Even if it's just a snippet!

... every hunam...

I see what you did there.   :P

I don't think they'll budge though. They don't want to dilute our "meaningful" remarks at the end of a month with irrelevant filler mid month...

The behavior on this forum often makes me embarrassed to be a Star Control fan.

The supercilious browbeating that is becoming a daily occurrence on here is not their fault nor their responsibility to correct by acquiescing to demands for more content. As far as I'm concerned, I consider myself privileged to have seen as much as I have already and you've got some gall to suggest the behavior on the forum is somehow on them rather than on any of the individuals who might be involved in such bickering.

Seriously, grow the hell up.

This is how forums operate, Awkbird.

I'm with CB on this. More frequent updates and less frequent non-answers (ala local MP) would be nice. (Though, it would give us more to debate about.)

Awkbird! Jeepers! Now you're even jumping on me. I'm DEFINITELY not saying it's on them! Tensions are already so high. It's not ON them or THEIR faults - it's a fact of the Internet. However, they COULD keep everyone busy with more frequent updates! That's the only point I was making, sheesh. And then you immediately erupt saying I've got "some gall". This is exactly what's happening on every other thread!

So let me clarify, and then please don't jump on me again - The Internet tends to erupt into flamewars during a slow news day. MAYBE the developers could curb that by giving more content, instead of us cannibalizing each other.

Is that more clear? NOT developers fault. COULD be a solution.

Annnnnnnd.... I hope that "grow the hell up" comment wasn't directed at me! I champion how well Stardock has been doing on here. Just look at my posts!

Awkbird really went off the handle there... Dafuq? ... supercilious browbeating ... acquiescing ...

I literally had to google that shizz..

From what I gather:

1. The game development is behind the tentative schedule on many things.

See for yourself:

I.e. what is that? never happened?

II.a. semi finished Dialog Tool -- May 2016 (1 month late)

II.b. never happened (4 months late)

II.c. never happened (3 months late)

II.d. never happened (2 months late)

II.e. never happened (1 month late)

III.a. not gonna happen

While I understand this isn't the the project schedule, but many things just aren't happening for us at all. And we're not talking days or weeks... Hence the last day of the month updates.

2. You have to realize that the only things Stardock will ask us about are the design decisions they're unsure about or divided internally on. That could very well be 1-5% of all the things. So, they aren't really looking for a lot of feedback. Most of the update content is just a game material reveal. Hence the founder's "mushroom state".

3. Developers don't feel like they owe us anything (not that they do. If they do then maybe just a wee bit. :P ), so any kinda request or demand fulfillment isn't happening. Even the tid-bits of concept art isn't being posted (which was asked for several times). Some simple questions aren't getting answered (even after multiple postings from multiple founders).

I'm not here to police Stardock or hold them accountable (not at this point in time at least :P ). Just trying to make it clear for everyone what's up with the game development state and Stardock - founders relationship.

Allow me to clear some of that up just in terms of defining what they are.

I.e. A vertical slice is a segment of the game with all levels of development passed over it at least once. It doesn't have to be the entire game, but it should often include an entire system or set of specified system. They don't HAVE to be playable, but in a lot of cases (ie this one) it probably would have helped. Yes, we didn't get a playable vertical slice, but we certainly got updates on several updates.

II.a. Meh, you're pretty much right.

II.b. We got to see video, but not a playable.

II c. We got imagery and some video, but not a playable.

II.d. Yeah, didn't really get anything related to that yet, I don't think (someone correct me if I'm wrong about that).

II.e. While late, we have a rough estimate of when it will happen now.

III.a. A little late, but I still have faith we'll get it by the end of the year.

2. You dare slander our Mushroom Overlords?! YOU ARE NON! WE SHALL CONVERT THE NON INTO VOID!

3. I think this is just a matter of what they feel is WORTH showing us.

Overall, I think this is a matter of some of the Founders expecting playables when that wasn't exactly what was promised.

Here's an updated roadmap (a good bunch of stuff was simply cut):

W/e is worthless to them might be gold to us - hardcore fans. ;)

I agree, I'm just playing devil's advocate based on my own knowledge of the industry.

I think there's a fundamental limit as to what they can share at this stage. Probably because lots of stuff is changing and such. they dont want to say "we are owrking on X" then suddenly say "uh yeah that was a totally bad idea we can't do it" kind of thing

They can prefix it all with "this might change" and still share it with us.

While the forums here are 'more reasonable' than the unwashed masses on the Steam forums, I think its still important to control expectations to a degree. As in the previous update the game is essentially 5 giant games types in one. Those various system really have to mesh together to create a cohesive expericne and any one system could be an entire game unto itself. It may be difficult to understand design decisions in game type A, without understnading that game type B is doing X so we need to do Y. A sort of broad example is how the drop rates in Diablo 3 initially were so low because they had to take into account the now non exsistent Auction houses to trade/sell/buy items. There's a critical interdependency there for what appears to be entirely disparate systems.

I think they're just as excited as we are about things. But also much more cautious. The franchise is one of the most revered. People even here are going to be very very scrutinizing of it. So I think they really want to at least position their best foot forward. You only have one chance to make a first impression so I think they're really realy trying to make that first impression count even here.

I've been waiting what a decade for a Star Control game? I can wait a few more months for some juicy updates.

I like everyone, and only comment when it's about the topic at hand.

Therefore, I would dig more frequent updates too, and would feel more useful if they were provided.

That is all.
