Time to Name your Planet

Time to Name your Planet

Greetings, Lifetime Founder!

Thank you for your support of Star Control. The time for you to make your mark on the universe has arrived - that's right, it's time to name a planet!

In order to submit, you must be logged in with the Stardock account that you purchased the Founder's Lifetime Edition with.

While we encourage silly and wild names (this is Star Control, after all), we ask that you please use your best judgment when submitting. We will deny any submissions containing offensive or inappropriate content, as well as submissions containing copyrighted or trademarked material.

Submissions end on October 14, 2016. Please see the "Name a Planet" page for all official rules and details. We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

1. Only ONE entry per user. You may change your entry once it has been submitted, but it will need to be re-approved.

2. Any inappropriate, trademarked, or copyrighted content will result in the entire entry being rejected.

3. If your entry is rejected, you may re-submit your entry. However, Stardock reserves the right to lock out any user who abuses this system or who submits deliberately offensive content.

4. Planet names are limited to 16 letters/numbers/spaces (no punctuation, please), and will be converted to title case in-game (only first letter capitalized).

5. Numbers and punctuation are acceptable in first, last, or screen names.

16 letters... Hmm...

How about...

"WE WANT LOCAL MP"

Or...

"TOP DOWN IS BEST" / "TOP DOWN 4EVER"

Or...

"SOULLESS HUSK PG"

Anyway... What are your planet names going to be?

I'm basically a lurker on these forums - I log in every few weeks at best. Judging by the number of planets named vs. the number of regular forum posters, I think plenty of other founders are in the same boat. I expect that more founders will become active participants here, however, when there's actually a game to play and give feedback on. Until then, for me at least, there really isn't anything to discuss.

Following this logic you defeat the founder's purpose. This is the time to try to influence the development process. As little as it might be. 'Cause by the time there's something to discuss you already have "NMS" on your plate and WP, GG if you know what I mean. ;)

( P.S. my current planet name idea is Zealos pronounced za-ea-lows any suggestions as to how I should spell that phonetically is welcome)

How do you even pronounce "ea"?  x_x

Is "za" = "zuh"? or "zeh"?

Zeylows?

I read Zealos as Zee-luhs. :P

Quoting Volusianus,

Come on, guys. Be more active. We don't bite much. Except maybe me. And Kavik. But mostly me.

My case exactly as well.

You guys didn't sign up as playtesters. You signed up as FOUNDERS to work on the game from conception to completion. Why ignore any and all development being done, just because there's nothing to play. Decisions are being made RIGHT NOW to shape and form the game. Guide them now, to play a kickass game later. That'd the Founder's Program.

Cuorebrave, while I appreciate your attempt at telling me how to behave and live, I'd like to point out that what you mention is not exactly part of the agreement to be part of the SCO Founder's program.

Regrettably, I do not seem to have a copy handy of "Cuorebrave's guide on how to go about being the bestest SCO Founder." Just let me know when you start crowdfunding. I'll be sure to at least give it a cursory look. If it is good enough, maybe I'll fork 100$, like I did to become a Founder here.

</sarcasm>

Now, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, I would humbly submit for your appreciation the fact that other people might be different from you and from your vision.

I'll be much more interested in giving an enlightened opinion once I have something to sink my teeth into, instead of participating in discussions that are just so much cloud-shoveling.

I've posted a couple times on issues that were important to me, and that's how it is going to remain. If you don't like it, I suggest you try the hotline 1-800-RATSASS.

I also do not have a tendency to over-inflate my sense of self-importance, nor do I try to take myself for one of SD's designers.

Which is sometimes the impression I get that some users on this forum unconsciously take themselves for.

So while I appreciate many posts you make, Cuorebrave, I couldn't care less about how you feel about me and other founders that you are branding as inadequate. Oh, and one last note: if that post was meant to motivate other speakers, it's a failure. Don't tell people what not to do and what not to be. It generally annoys them.

^ anger issues much?

Nahhhhh.  I know you don't know me, but if you did, you'd know that this was delivered in a deadpan (if slightly ticked) tone of voice.  Anger? None. There is no reason to get angry at someone that I do not know nor care about... but I see how that could be read as being angry, though :-)

Oh well. The written forum media is not prone to indicate the subtleties of intonation, and non-verbal attitude is, by definition, absent :-(

Too bad sarcasm, irony and vexing attitude are my preferred forms of humor. Sorry if this came across as angry. It was meant to be derisive and assertive, with a slightly condescending attitude.

Edit: And add "lecturing" to the attitude.

^ All this energy could've been spent on discussing the little of SCO that we've got. ;)

Did you see someone submitted 404 as a planet name? I was hoping for an "ERROR NOT FOUND" planet, but 404 will do.

Once October 14 rolls around, we need to do another post that shames the worst names.

Lol, Hunam_, how do I always wander into this shit? And then all of a sudden I'm waist-deep in a flame war?

Chill out, Tovanion! You've been relatively active on here for months... I was talking to the people who are all pissed they might or might not get a steam-key who have been founders for a year now, and never once bothered to offer any input. You've been on these forums pretty consistently, so I wasn't even TALKING to you.

Besides, is it really up for debate that Founders, who get direct access to the developers on this forum, should want to contribute at all points in development? Stardock sure seems to think so......

Hmmm... I quoted a lurker saying I was in the same situation, that I'd log in every couple weeks and rarely offer a comment... and then you have:

And then, when I call you on this, we have:

So this wasn't addressed to me or the guy I was quoting?  I guess I was completely mistaken, then. But you can see how this can be confusing, I hope? So I'll drop this topic and continue on my merry lurker way (who did not request a Steam Key, BTW).

2 pieces of advice:
1- If you *always* (emphasis mine) wander into "this shit", maybe this should give you a hint because you should look for what is common to all the "shit" you've been in?
2- Telling someone to calm down/chill out/take a breather is the surest way to inflame the situation further. Ask any CSR :-)

And to chill out, I would have needed to be angry or something, which is not the case. 10-4.

My daughter suggested that I name my planet "A PLANET" to troll all of you.
