How we've affected development

In a different thread, Frogboy stated that we in the founder's program Changed the course of development for the game by convincing them that no one wants to see the Spathi ret conned out of the game entirely, hence the concept of The Multiverse (tm).

What I want to know is - I think it would be extremely rewarding for us on the Founder's Program, to understand any other effects on development we've brought about! Help us take some ownership and pride in what's going on behind the scenes. That would be so cool to hear!

Frogboy? Vaelzad? Any info you can give us to let us know, "Well we WERE going to make the game only-3D, but y'all convinced us to keep it top-down!" or something similar!

I think especially in this month where most of Stardock is on vacation, there's only a few of us still kickin' around here. And a lot, a lot, of people are pretty silent most of the time. Maybe waiting for some real meat to arrive regarding the new Starcon!?

And for some reason this thread makes me wonder if they decided to use the "peeling the onion" even as at least a concept behind bosses, if not for bases because for some reason they don't want bases.  That's layered defense is really fun to bring down in this genre.

To give you an idea, out of all the founders around 5% have contributed with posts to the forum discussion.

Lame!! How do we get more people to be active on here? Why become a founder if you're not going to have input!!

Oh well, you're stuck with us Vaelzad ;) hahah

My guess would be like 300 founders then? 500 maybe?

I really think most of the lack of people is three-fold:

1) They read the announcement about Stardock's July Vacations and figured they'd just come back in August

2) Frogboy said the June update was small and July's would be even smaller, so again, they'd just come back in August

and finally, 3) Like I said, there's not much "meat" yet. The conversation tree came out, but other than some design docs and screenshots with the occasional movie, there's not much to go off of... YET! Just wait till Super Melee comes out!!!

Until there is a more regular stream of things to see, I think things will stay pretty slow until they are at a point where they can show more here.  The more they show, and more regularly, the more will become active... and the devs know that.  At this stage you would only expect the "hard core" or in SFU lingo "The Staff Types", to be around during any kind of extended lull.  The mass audience only arises where there is something new and significant, and it kind of works in layers... and by my experience... It says that anyone here so far... is the equvilant of a "Staff Member or Rated Ace" in terms of their "Loyalty to the Lull".

Of course, that's all philosophical and you can never really predict any type of "mob", hahaha!!

I primarily just check-in to see if something new has been released, and if there's a good discussion that caters to my interests. I *hope* that I encouraged or reinforced the development of an extensive modding system for the game (specifically a scripting system that allows for custom abilities and behavior). To my knowledge there's not been much mention of modding other than in context of "adding your own art/story/quests".

I have a really low attention span.

Sometimes i check here routinely, then i forgot about this forum altogether for a week or two and suddenly i remember to check here again.

Sadly my (and others) cries of not making things too cartoony going unheard also curb my enthausiasm when it comes to input, but maybe that's just the spoiled brat in me complaining =P

@n0vast0rm:

honestly, all the feedback and reveals we've had recently left me with the impression that the project is safely not-cartoony

I would call it spirited discussion with lucid points to a consensual end.

Hi everyone.

Re: participation rates in forum. I joined the program Nov 2015. I haven't received a single communication saying that the forum or the vault was up and running. I haven't checked in a few months but last time I clicked on any of the links I had originally they were throwing up errors. I didn't know about the 'discount' founders version either.

Bit disappointed that I haven't had the chance to participate until now. I wonder how many others are out there waiting for notification that it has all started.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention Robin, I'll make sure we look into it.

I don't get it - what do you mean "discount"? When? How? Why don't I know about it?

First I've heard of a discounted founders version.

To Clarify what has been offered. There was the Original founder's that you all bought for $99. With that came all the bells and whistles. Ability to name a planet, free DLC and expansions for life, etc....

The reduced price version which we sent out was done after that but did not include any of the perks. They only get access to the forums, vault, and the release of the game. None of the DLC, Expansion, or other perks.

Speaking of founder perks and naming... Are we naming a planet, or are we naming a star/solar-system? How could we name a planet that we cannot see on the starmap?

I have already picked out my name, and it works for either. How will you collect them?

Discounted version email was sent out about a month after original invite. I'm too lazy to find the email for the exact date. XD

I don't know how you guys read/check your emails, but it should be there..... ;)

P.S. I'm on gmail.

Wow, i didn't even heard of the discount version! XD still, proud of getting the full founders version!

Searched my email, still have the founder's invite but nothing about the discounted version.  Not a problem, not like I want to switch.

I'd never switch, though I didn't receive any email. I would have liked to at least contemplate the option, as $$$ is tight with a new baby almost here!

Still, I'd be getting the DLC and everything, anyway :P
