Why are my worlds so undeveloped?

Why are my worlds so undeveloped?

So i played my first game with the latest updates.

I thought i would try tech trading and brokering off because i heard its good even though i never went well with that in the past.

Then during the game everything went very well, and i had managed to get quite a few survey ships early on and found an exceptional number of instant tech anomalies (I was careful to switch to an expensive tech each time before surveying).

I noticed the Drengin had very powerful fleets but i was not worried since i had already researched large hulls and drone carriers.

Now everything seems to be happening pretty fast, only just started building up economic starbases, and one AI surrendered to me after the Drengin attacked them. I got a few of their worlds... i was shocked... they were seriously ahead of my worlds in development? Then shortly after the Drengin declared war on me, so i developed some nice ships to counter. I went to the shipyard to build.... how long?? your joking!!!! i quit the game. Why all my worlds want to be so slow developing and building??

Oh yea, it was normal before that science worlds wont develop for shxt. I am still rush buying on my main science worlds even towards the end of a game, its exhausting, but other worlds can usually develop ok. Seems that all my worlds are behaving like science worlds in this particular game?? lol

Quoting Mystikmind,

I did harrass them a few times with fast survey ships and kill their asteroid mines and any constructors i came accross. They have some powerful fleets but the speed is only 3, is that why they wont attack?

This is the point where I suggest Horemvores Tweaked AI :P

Among other things the blueprints for ships are tweaked to ahve more engines.

Thanx for the promo! BUT, I think this is a bit mean lol. If he/she is struggling with the default game......

The promo is of course entirely altruistic :P
(not, since it also has my tech and planetary governors)

Besides the picture I got is a former gc2 vet who had to adapt to building factories and now creams genuis drengin. It is time :P

Shameless self-promotion: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4hv-Mbo-IfWQnWeOAv8jFpSmkjdNpM6_

You might pick up a thing or two.

Quoting Mystikmind,

The Drenging still managed to streak ahead on the power rating, but this time i did not wait for technology, i started building lots of prototype ships from early game.

Never concern yourself with the power rating. It means almost nothing.

Quoting Mystikmind,

The Drengin have been at war with me for a long time but have not attacked? How come? neither do they seem like they want to? I have just one powerful prototype ship fleet on their boarder looking for a fight, but i did not think i needed 'range' to find them, so my ships are stuck at range limit and the drengin wont come and play? What is wrong with them?

How far away are they? If they are very far away, it is going to take them some time to get to you.

Remember, the AI isn't smart: it will do things that human players would never do, like declare war before having a fleet ready, or declaring war over a long distance.

Quoting Mystikmind,

That has a lot to do with it. With only 3 moves it will take them a long time to get to you.

Quoting Mystikmind,

Their overall power rating is first at 2500 and i am second at about 2100. Their difficulty level is Genius.

"Genius" doesn't make them any smarter, it just gives them massive bonuses: http://galciv3.gamepedia.com/Difficulty_Settings

The power rating has several important effects in the game.... most significantly, where the player reaches number one, you can be sure the challenge is gone in that game! lol The other big one is where it makes the AI cocky to attack and results in a second front opening up that the player is not prepared for! Especially if your ship specialization is poor vs that race!!!!!

The Drengin are somewhat far, however i have forward starbases that are very close to their boarder.... my defensive fleets with no range extension can just reach inside their territory. But needless to say, those forward starbases are packed with ships, possibly that is why they don't attack? Anyway, last night i toppled them from the number one position on the power rating, and i have not even destroyed any of their fleets yet!

I suspect the Drengin are running a defensive strategy? since they have been at war with me they have not gone to war with anyone else.... that is very different to my first play through of the map where i was weak. The Drengin took many worlds from Thalan while at war with me.

So, i think i might have to give the Drengin a peace treaty and let them consume someone else so they can become strong to attack me? Also i can sell a multitude of my obsolete ships to bring down my power rating if i need to.

Your not into modding right.

The problem with power rating is the heavy weight of fleets. Since the AI stocks their worlds and starbases with ships, a lot of its power rating is not necessarily a threat to you and might actually be offset by your tech and production capabilities.

Nah, lol

Never had any good experience with mods in the past - generally speaking, mods tend to be harder than vanilla.

But that is not always a bad thing, i mean take Alpha Centauri for example.... the AI is pretty horrible in that game and i would love it to be better, and there are mods for doing that, and yet still i have not bothered! since i have been put off mods in general.

Of course.... but let me put it another way why the power rating is important - 'AI diplomacy' because the AI naturally gets hostile fast if your power rating is low. And yes the player can manipulate diplomacy because of the power rating. When i am bored and ready for war, i just sell a pile of old ships and diminish my power rating so the stupid AI attacks and i annihilate them...... not complaining, i love punishing stupid AI!!! hehehehe, fun

UPDATE:

The rematch i was playing crashed before i got to turn 270, then i remembered why i have never actually finished a Galciv3 game! Sooner or later it will crash and what i see is some dumb message if i want to send a bug report..... Anyway, i kinda hate redoing half a dozen turns off the auto save, so that's the end of that,

I have switched to playing Medieval 2 total war...... ironically, continuing a game i stopped playing because of a crash! So if it crashes again i will come back to galciv3.....

Crash crash tag team!!!!! hahahahaha,,, sigh

That's why I autosave every turn!

I don't think I've ever crashed GC3...  Are you playing games past save breaking updates?

Yea i should autosave every turn!

I created that map under 1.8

Crashing also depends on the individual computer.... and i have never owned a computer that has no annoying querks..... well, not since windows98 which set the ultimate standard of stability never to be repeated by Microsoft!

I have never had crashes either. Well self inflicted crashes(modding) but they don't count!

I've had crashes from razing enemy homeworlds after conquering them, so maybe avoid this, if you were doing this. Apart from that I only rarely had crashes.

Yep, 'rarely' is the right word - In order to lure you into a false sense of security, and convince you not to bother setting the auto save to every turn, then just when you least expect it.... Crash! lol

I never noticed any particular game action associated with a crash.... but my keyboard has caused a few crashes.

Because i watch tv while playing, i often rest my keyboard sideways, so that the far edge is under the corner of the monitor screen. But then i have to pick the keyboard up to select multiple ships in a fleet. Sometimes it bumps the monitor when i pick it up.... this sometimes causes the game to crash. I am not sure which key is doing it? but it is one of the keys near the upper keypad area.
