In the words of George C. Scott, "Rommel you magnificent bastard, I read your book!"

Nice update!

I agree whole heartedly that planet exploration will gain much greatness with a updated interface. This is a wonderful time as technology and programming can really bring out some of the best aspects of the game that previous versions just couldn't do.

The alternate universe is a safe way to get your perspective across without contaminating the previous incarnations. Well thought out I would love to write some fiction about that once you have the races worked out. That might be a consideration you give to the founders to allow them to write the basic back story on some of the alien races.

The lander sequence is a cool idea. You may incorporate a skip option which will make you roll the dice on a good landing based on environmental factors and shuttle equipment.

Those aliens are cool both the 3d renderings and the sketches. I look forward to filling up my cargo bay with them. Those should make some good sprites. Are you planning to keep the polygon count low for aliens, landing craft and flora?

The music was fun and quirky and I could see myself crusin' kicked back in my lander while those jams are playing. *_*

Super melee hmmmm Yummy That's all that needs to be said.

As for your play testing issue (ahem) I may know a person or two who can help with that:pout: O:) :-"

Finally please tell me your going to include controller support. (Truthfully mind you)

Thanks

That's an actual book, you know, you can read it as well.  It was an unfinished book called "The Tank in Attack" by Erwin Rommel.  Most of it is re-printed in "The Rommel Papers" which is very much like the book "Patton" that the movie was based on, only much better.

Yet you see the book in the movie. Patton is one of my favorite military leaders.  He didn't care about what others thought, he wanted to win wars.

Patton and Rommel are very similar.  They were among the very few who understood how the "next generation" of war worked.  The vast majority of generals in WWII were still fighting WWI.  There might have been a dozen or so in the world who actually even understood which war they were fighting.  Even MacArthur thought in the old school way.  Patton, Rommel and German Field Marshal Erich von Manstein were the absolute best of them.  Erich von Manstein was probably the best of the three.  There were a handful of others, though, like Nathan Star in the Pacific Theater and one of Patton's subordinates named Lucian Truscott.  The fact the Patton actually had one of the few other generals in the world who understood modern war under his command does much to enhance Patton's reputation.  Lucian Truscott was actually more responsible for several big things that Patton winds up getting the credit for.  Still, I'd still say Patton was the best after Erich von Manstein.  Von Manstein really was the true master of his era, by a pretty big margin.  He's like the Michael Jordan of WWII.

Great update! I really like the Origins framing for the story and multiverse. The planetary landing bit seems like it will be a fun addition to planetary exploration. The art and music both still seem to be going in a fun and funky direction which should fit the feel set by Star Control 2 quite nicely.
